Regression: d3 graph doesn't render right

Project Member Reported by thakis@chromium.org, Mar 7 2017

Issue description

Chrome Version : 57.0.2987.88
OS Version: OS X 10.12.2
URLs (if applicable) : http://amnoid.de/notes/2012/03/viz.html
Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL after other browsers where you have tested this issue:
     Safari: OK

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go to http://amnoid.de/notes/2012/03/viz.html , wait for it to load

What is the expected result?

First graph looks like a bunch of dots, not like a bunch of blue lines.

What happens instead of that?

First graph is covered in blue lines that temporarily disappear on mouse over.

Looks fine in Safari, and looked fine in Chrome for years.

I believe d3 compiles down to svg not canvas, but I'm not 100% sure.

Looks like batching artifacts

Status: Duplicate (was: Duplo)
Most likely the same as issue 690144 .

@thakis, can you check on canary?
Looks better on canary. Any reason we're not merging the fix to M57?
