Chrome 64bit autoupdate not updating Chrome's version in Control Panel/Programs

Project Member Reported by pastarmovj@chromium.org, Mar 6 2017

Issue description

Issue description taken from: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome-admins/__ifCN7LbEg;context-place=forum/chrome-admins

I'm testing a large-scale deployment of Google Chrome for Work 55 in 32 and 64 bit flavors using the MSI installers.

Now that Chrome 56 is out, the Chrome for Work test computers seem to update without problema to the v56, and the 32 bit version shows the version 56 as installed in the Control Panel as soon as it gets updatded.

The 64 bit versión, however, also gets updated BUT the version number showed in the Control Panel is not updated and still shows like if it's v55.

This poses a big problem for us because we need to know if there are computers with old Chrome versions, in order to fix them. And taking into account that 64 bit versión does not update its Control Panel entry, in 2-3 months our reports will fill with false v55 versions.

Has anybody suffered this same issue? As said, it Works ok for Chrome x86 and only fails for Chrome x64.

Could it be due to some misconfig in our master_preferences files?
