Description:
Change (multilingual) keyboard language option in the login screen of a Chromebox
Use case:
Client's organization consist of multiracial and they want to use their own keyboard language when typing their password and logging in to their Chromebook. Users could only choose US (language) Keyboard in the Input Methods.
Motivation:
Client's organization consists of multilingual Sales and Support team which make up almost half of all their staff.
Existing workarounds:
1. On the sign-in screen, go to settings click at the bottom right to open the settings (gear icon is grayed out).
2. Click on Accessibility and put a check mark on 'On-screen keyboard'
3. Next, since the language keyboard has not been setup yet, let the user sign-in using US Keyboard.
4. Once the user has signed in, the user needs to change the default keyboard language.
a. click the settings at the bottom right and click the gear icon.
b. in the device section, click 'Keyboard settings'
c. next, click the link 'Change language and input settings'
d. in the 'Languages and input' dialogue box, click 'Add' and choose the user's preferred language
e. once added, click the language that's been added and tick the box next to the chosen language in the 'Input Method' section. **NOTE: Some languages don't have any input methods
f. tick the box next to the 'Show input options in the shelf' and click 'Done'
h. at the bottom right, click the Input Method icon just beside your on-screen keyboard and choose your default keyboard language, if you chose French keyboard you should see FR as your default keyboard language.
i. sign out and then sign back in, this time click the on-screen keyboard at the bottom right.
k. on-screen keyboard should be up, look for the three icons and check the keyboard language that will be use when your signing in (there will be a check mark beside your default keyboard language)
