text-overflow ellipsis shows only one dot

What is the expected behavior?
The text-overflow ellipsis css property value should render 3 dots or none at all.

What went wrong?
The text-overflow ellipsis css property value renders 1 or 2 dots.

Does it occur on multiple sites: Yes

Is it a problem with a plugin? No 

Did this work before? N/A 

Does this work in other browsers? Yes

Chrome version: 56.0.2924.87  Channel: stable
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0

In the jsfiddle example you can see the issue with 2 dots but in the image attached you can see only 1 dot.
In the image attached case the font family is 'Montserrat-UltraLight' when in the jsfiddle I've used 'Montserrat' from googole fonts:

Tested on Mac os 10.12.2 , ubuntu 14.04 and windows 7 using chrome M56 #56.0.2924.87 and M58 #58.0.3027.0 and issue is reproduced.

This is a regression broken in "M49" 

Bisect results provided Using old bisect script ,
Good Build : 49.0.2573.0 (revision : 361233) 
Bad Build : 49.0.2575.0 (revision : 361776)

You are probably looking for a change made after 361472 (known good), but no later than 361490 (first known bad).
