Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/56.0.2924.87 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. go to https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues 2. In the address-bar type: javascript:window.open("https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=428798", "_blank", "height=400,width=400,left=0,top=0,resizable=yes,titlebar=yes,status=yes"); 3. The page will now open in a pop up, and the favicon looks blurred. (note if you copy-paste to the address bar, the javascript: part disapear. So type javascript: manually) What is the expected behavior? Clear favicon. What went wrong? When you open a pop up windows using window.open in a new window. The favicon looks blurred. A zoomed in image is attached. The problems is also described here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/39569584/favicon-is-blurred And is this outdated issue: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=428798 Did this work before? N/A Does this work in other browsers? Yes Chrome version: 56.0.2924.87 Channel: canary OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0 Problem is also there in Canary 58.0.3021.0

OBS: This is related to the windows 10 display settings. Maybe the favicons is only rendered differently with window.open if you have "customize your display"/"Change the size of text, apps, and other items" set to 200%, on a FHD monitor. Here is attached another example.

> OBS: This is related to the windows 10 display settings. I'm not so sure about that. I'm seeing it on Windows 7 too with default scaling. But instead of being blurry icon is pixelated and appears to be generated from 16x16px image, even when smallest image in favicon.ico is 32x32px.

Hi Iwasawa. ok. On my two monitors it look like it renders in the same way when just windows display size is set to 100%. So to repreduce maybe for some it is needed to change display size. I use png, not ico. The same with both 16*16 and 32*32.

Its like it just renders differently, maybe depending on the type of image. Here is an example from a display 100%. http://popuptest.com/ can also be used to easy reproduce.

I suggest different set of actions. 1. Choose a website that is known to have favicon larger than 16x16. Let's go with google.com 2. Add shortcut to the said website to the desktop, so you could open it in a separate window. 3. Open said website in a standalone window. 4. Now open the same website in a different kind of window using javascript: javascript:window.open("https://google.com", "_blank", "height=400,width=400,left=25,top=25,resizable=yes,titlebar=yes,status=yes"); 5. Look at something that displays icons of the open windows in 32x32 size. Either an Alt+Tab panel or the task bar with large icons would do. Observe the difference between two icons which originated from the same file

Thx Iwasawa! I made a good website for test here: http://www.basechat.com/chromebug/Favicon-looks-blurry/ The favicon used on this page is very detalied and it may be easier to see the problem. Magnifier-tool on windows can be usefull to see the problem. Or screenshot and then zoom in Paint.

Able to reproduce this issue on Win-10 using chrome reported version #56.0.2924.87 and latest canary #58.0.3026.0 . Issue is specific to windows only. This is a non-regression issue as it is observed from M35 old builds. Hence, marking it as untriaged to get more inputs from dev team. Thanks...!!

Thx - and thanks to Jmukt!. Be also aware of Iwasawa post and video above, it shows that the issue also affects favicons in taskmanager and taskbar. Best regards Anders Both

I believe I found the same issue in another context here: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=890458 Referenced this issue. Hope this doesn't get auto-closed, too :( |
