Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_12_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/56.0.2924.76 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. go to an https site 2. open developer tools (b/c that's where information about site certs is now apparently) 3. close developer tools now, if you open developer tools, you'll see the security tab, and it'll already be selected. 4. select a different tab, eg. Elements 5. close the developer tools. 6. open developer tools the security tab is nowhere to be found. What is the expected behavior? the expected behavior is that it's easier to view site cert information. being able to navigate directly to the cert from the https in the url bar was easiest, but if that's not an option, then not hiding the security tab seems like an obvious second choice. What went wrong? if the security tab wasn't selected when I closed developer tools, the security tab is hidden when I go to re-open devtools. Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 56.0.2924.76 Channel: n/a OS Version: OS X 10.12.3 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0

yes, dragging the security tab to the far left makes it stick no matter what tab is selected when I close developer tools. I guess that's a fix? the impetus of this request is that I think it should be easy (easier anyway) in chrome for me to get information about a site's cert. I realize that because I had grown accustomed to clicking on the padlock to get the site's cert info, that's the most intuitive to me, even though it might not be the most intuitive for everyone. but I don't think it's a stretch to assume that a not-shown-by-default tab in developer tools is probably one of the least intuitive places it can go :)

Able to reproduce the issue on Windows7, Mac 10.12.2 & ubuntu 14.04 using chrome stable & Canary- & reported Version-56.0.2924.76 as per below steps: 1. Launched chrome 2. Navigated to https site 3. Opened dev tools & observed security tab is at last position 4. Navigate to security tab & view the certificate 5. Now close dev tools 6. Reopen dev tools now & observed that 'Elements' tab is shown by default 7. Now drag the 'security ' tab to first position (before elements tab) & view certificate 8. Close dev tools 9. Reopen dev tools & observed that 'Elements' tab is shown again Same issue observed from M48 builds to latest Canary.Marking this as untriaged as this is a non regression issue. Note:Security tab is not available in the earler builds of M48. Please find the attached screencast for reference. Thank you!!

Since all the requests for easy accessibility to the Security panel were about the certificate viewer, I consider this to be resolved by Issue 663971 . |
