Most visited sites disappear from new tab page after update to latest version

Reported by cole.si...@gmail.com, Feb 22 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.54 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Chrome updates to version Version 57.0.2987.54 (Official Build) beta (64-bit)
2. Restart Chrome
3. All most visited websites gone. Just Welcome to Google and Chrome Web Store left there

What is the expected behavior?
All the same sites that were there before the update should still be there

What went wrong?
They dissapeared. Replaced by default sites

Did this work before? Yes Previous beta version

Chrome version: 57.0.2987.54 Channel: beta
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0

This would be expected if you cleared your browsing history, but of course a normal update shouldn't have that effect.

Adding some folks who've recently worked in this area. Any ideas?

Hmm. Does chrome://history still show your browsing history? Are you signed into Chrome (and if so, are you signed into any other copies of Chrome, and do they have sites and history)?
Didn't clear browser history & chrome://history still shows everything.
I'm signed into Chrome and the other computer worked fine, was only on this PC.
I've since updated to Version 57.0.2987.74 and everything is working as it should now.

Closing as WontFix, since it has gone away and is not reproducible. Feel free to reopen (or file a new bug) if it happens again. Thanks!
