proguard not removing java Log.d in release build

after compiling 64bit chrome_apk with is_debug=false, still seeing the log messages with

adb logcat | grep "Network connectivity changed, type is"


02-14 16:35:01.314  4992  4992 D NetworkChangeNotifierAutoDetect: Network connectivity changed, type is: 6
02-14 16:35:06.080  4992  4992 D NetworkChangeNotifierAutoDetect: Network connectivity changed, type is: 2

(when changing the wifi connectivity)

We investigated and this turned out to be a mistake (it was the webview inside a different app that was printing the message, not the chrome_apk Tim had built), but in the process we discovered that some of our logging is wastefully implemented due to use of string concatenation that proguard can't strip, which I've filed  issue 694303  about.
