Feature Request: Delete Abandoned Cookies |
||
Issue descriptionI wish Chrome had a feature/button that I could press to delete all cookies that are not associated with a site in my history. In other words, if I've deleted history entries for a particular site, or all visits to a particular site have expired from my history, the cookies for that site should be deleted. I'd especially love it if Chrome did this cleanup automatically. It seems like a good privacy policy with little downsides. (It especially seems like a no-brainer to do this for sites that were explicitly deleted by the user from history.)

Deleting a site from history should also delete the associated data? (I assume by 'cookies' you also mean local storage, indexed db etc.) Then I think this is the same as 'Forget this site' ( issue 67245 ) just put in different words :)

msramek@, This is conceptually similar to bug 67245 . However, that bug proposes a new UI option; this bug strongly suggests that something can be done automatically without any new UI. If you want to merge to the bugs, I think this one should be canonical because it lays out a wider set of strategies. :-)

This means when someone deletes all history in the clear browsing data dialog, all cookies (and also site data) would be deleted as well? This seems very unexpected to me because the option to delete cookies was explicitly not chosen? I think "forget this site" sounds like a much better idea.

I'd be happy with a "forget this site" option if it's surfaces on the chrome://history page where users select pages/sites to delete. After all, that's the most common place for a user to go who wants to delete information relevant to a particular site.
