xoogler gerrit accounts not getting automatically unlinked |
||||||
Issue descriptionFiled on behalf of dhendrix: """ I left Google earlier this month (Friday Feb. 3) and just tried logging into Gerrit using my dhendrix@chromium.org credentials. Unfortunately I still can't log in, so perhaps there is something wrong with the daily cron job that should have unlinked the accounts. My @google.com e-mail was dhendrix@google.com. Here is the error message I'm seeing: 403. That’s an error. dhendrix@chromium.org has already been registered under a different account accessible by: dhendrix@google.com """ The error message is the exact message that folks get when their @chromium and @google accounts are linked, and they try to sign in with their @chromium. So it's doing exactly what we expect... except that there's supposed to be a script which looks for folks whose @google accounts no longer exist, remove them from all of their groups, and then unlink their accounts. I swear I've seen it before. It clearly isn't running, or isn't running correctly. Someone needs to track that script down, see where it is supposed to be running, and figure out what's wrong. Marking this as a git admin task, as any git admin should be able to take care of this. Please don't just manually unlink these accounts, we need to figure out why they weren't automatically unlinked.

I'm not sure what this is referring to. The only "removal" script I'm aware of is googlers_group_update, but I'm not that familiar with it, and don't think it has anything to do with gerrit accounts. And either way, it looks like it did remove him (from whatever it is that it removes people from) on Feb 10: https://groups.google.com/a/google.com/d/msg/chrome-re/_B-qSllNvyc/f0YXb-U8EAAJ Maybe this is somehow related to the tools that do things like sync the gerrit committers list, but I have no idea what those tools are or who owns them :/

Ok, I'm super confused. I did some digging, and came to the conclusion that I must have hallucinated the script that I was thinking of. I even decided that it may have been baked into GoB itself, and went digging over there, but still came up empty. But now, querying dhendrix@chromium.org and dhendrix@google.com on the chromium host shows that they're independent accounts that aren't linked at all. So *something* unlinked them. dhendrix: Can you try signing in again? I think it should work now.

Wait, no, they are still linked somehow. Although they don't reference each other's email addresses at all, the entry for dhendrix@chromium.org lists two accounts, and one of them has the same account number as the account_external_id on the @google.com account. I hate gerrit accounts so much.

Ok, I deleted the external id which was in the @google.com account, referencing the @chromium.org account. This should now be fixed for dhendrix. I'm going to dupe this bug into a larger overall tracking bug for fixing this Once And For All.

I still get the 403 error (dhendrix@chromium.org has already been registered under a different account accessible by: dhendrix@google.com) when I try to sign in via Gerrit directly. However signing into Gmail first and then going to Gerrit seems to work. This was attempted on a fresh OS install, so there shouldn't be any cookie issues or stale browser state. Mail directed at my chromium.org account also seems to be redirected to google.com, even though I don't have any forwarding rules set up in Gmail. If I send mail to dhendrix@chromium.org, I get the following error: ----snip---- Your message wasn't delivered to dhendrix@google.com because the address couldn't be found. Check for typos or unnecessary spaces and try again. The response from the remote server was: 550 5.2.1 The email account that you tried to reach is disabled. Learn more at https://support.google.com/mail/?p=DisabledUser o81si4547406lfo.286 - gsmtp ----snip---- (I can forward a full error message if needed)

+benhenry for the forwarding issue; I have no idea what to do with that. +dborowitz for the sign-in issue; the accounts are clearly unlinked so I have no idea why it is still giving you that message.

Do they have another back-up email address?

I've fixed the forwarding, but I'd like to know if there's a back-up email in case I need to send a new password without your request. I also had to fix your trybot access, as you didn't have access with your @chromium account previously - not sure how you did such good work for so long ;).

Re #10: Mail works again, thanks! I went into my account settings and set the backup e-mail to my personal account, david.hendricks@gmail.com. Interesting about the trybot access, I'm pretty sure I used the instructions on https://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/build/using-remote-trybots a couple months ago (while I was still a Googler) during some code refactoring. *shrug*
