Download pauses when chrome is closed on Android |

Issue descriptionChrome Version: M56 OS: Android What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Visit any website to download a file (2) Start download (3) Close chrome using recent apps menu What is the expected result? Download pauses as soon as Chrome app is killed using Recent apps menu (square button on android). Please see attached video for more details. What happens instead? Download should continue in background Note : 1. Chrome is not restricted from using data in background 2. Data saver mode is turned Off.

I know Chrome is supposed to restart itself if it gets killed by the OS, but I don't know if it does the same thing if the user kills the app. Min/David, do you know what the intended behavior is?

Chrome will restart if a download is active, however, there is no guarantee when that happens. It depends on network conditions and CPU load, normally i saw the download resumes within 3 minutes after chrome is killed

This behavior might change if we move to a foreground service, which we might do shortly.

This is fixed on Android N in M58 on Dev Channel. This is working as expected on Pre-N devices. Users can manually resume the download as a mitigation. |
