Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/55.0.2883.87 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. browse some websites with search 2. type the website domain name and space What is the expected behavior? search in Google What went wrong? Chrome uses learned "other search engines" Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 55.0.2883.87 Channel: n/a OS Version: Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0 There should be a clean way to disable this unwanted feature instead of using nasty hacks to break this feature https://superuser.com/questions/276069/google-chrome-automatically-adding-websites-to-my-list-of-search-engines

Unable to reproduce the issue on Ubuntu 14.04, Windows 7 & Mac 10.12.2 using chrome stable#56.0.2924.87,Canary#58.0.3011.0 & reported version# 55.0.2883.87 as per below steps: 1. Launched chrome 2. Added 'Google URL Shortcut' extension 3. Navigated to different websites like NSE,BSE,Dell etc 4. Navigated to chrome://settings 5. Observe 'Search engines' under 'Search' section 6. ABove URL's are not added in search engines Please find the attached screencast for reference & let us know if we miss anything to reproduce the issue. Thanks!!

The repro steps seem to omit the important detail: you need to use the site's own search a couple of times. This annoying and useless feature was present in Chrome since the very early days of its existence.
