Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. start X w/o gnome and start chrome
i.e. create $HOME/.Xclient like follows and run startx from console.

---

2. click any UI associates with pulldown list, like
- "chrome setting" U/I at right-top of the window
- bookmark folder in the bookmark bar
- "Search [Open issues]" <select> item in https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/list

What is the expected behavior?
pulldown list content is shown

What went wrong?
list content is not shown, while click reaction is observed. 

Did this work before? Yes 54.0.2840.100 was OK at least

Chrome version: 55.0.2883.87  Channel: stable
OS Version: Fedora25 (kernel 4.8.15-300.fc25)
Flash Version: 24.0.0.194

with gnome environment, everything works fine.
problem happens only with pure X.
