Browse to certain websites (such as gmail) 2. Scroll or otherwise cause frequent display updates (youtube videos will already do it) 3. Various parts of the page flicker white. What is the expected result? No flickering. What happens instead of that? Flickering. Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if possible. + compositor folks Some context: Goobuntu is switching to the Xenial HWE stack in 3 weeks (planned), which includes Xenial-to-Trusty backports of the kernel, X, and Mesa. A current workaround is to use --disable-gpu-driver-bug-workarounds --enable-native-gpu-memory-buffers justinkl@ How can I test this on my dev machine?

Any word on troubleshooting this flickering under Xenial's X server? The deployment of this X server version to the Goobuntu fleet is next week.

This sounds like a driver issue (chipset-specific, triggered by a driver stack upgrade). Is there any way to bisect the driver (or X?) changes that cause the flicker to appear? It doesn't sound like it was happening with Trusty's drivers, so something likely has changed in the driver that causes the regression.

As an aside, apologies for the necromancy, I just didn't want to talk about pushes to the Goobuntu fleet on a public bug. Issue doesn't appear to occur with the Wily X stack installed, so it does seem like the regression occurred between Wily and Xenial. (Note that I *strongly* doubt this is a Goobuntu- or Trusty-specific issue. This is probably also occurring on Ubuntu Xenial and later.)

Thanks for the info! Is it possible to have all the Wily stack, but update mesa to the Xenial version? Does it repro then?

Sorry for the delay, only just had a chance to try. I don't think it repros under those conditions (although other mildly weird stuff happens).
