These were added in https://codereview.chromium.org/2671773005 in order to make refactoring easier.  However, it's unclear whether it will ultimately help with code readability in the final state of ios/web/navigation.  Once CRWSessionController and CRWSessionEntry are removed, we should revisit these typedefs and whether they should remain in the final code.
