gmail ios app displays inbox messages count with 999, even though inbox had 9400+ emails (not read)

Reported by maladi.s...@gmail.com, Feb 5 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/55.0.2883.87 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. have inbox messages with more than 1000+ (not read)
2. Check IOS gmail app (it shows the count 999)
3. Looks like it's can't display 4 digit # on app

What is the expected behavior?
If I have 9412 inbox messages, it should show 9412.

But now it shows 999.

What went wrong?
Not sure.

Did this work before? Yes

Chrome version: 55.0.2883.87 Channel: n/a
OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2)
