E.g. https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=415681 None of the workarounds (disable DRI3, playing with sandboxing settings) have worked for me for a number of past stable versions up to 56.0.2924.76. I'm currently using a kernel version 4.8.11 and Mesa 13.0.4. Also there is a libxshmfence 1.2 on my system. Does it occur on multiple sites: N/A Is it a problem with a plugin? No Did this work before? Yes Does this work in other browsers? Yes Chrome version: 56.0.2924.76 Channel: stable OS Version: Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0 Please let me know if I can provide any additional details.

Unable to reproduce the issue on Linux Ubuntu 14.04 , Windows 7 & mac 10.12.2 with chrome reported version-56.0.2924.76 , stable-56.0.2924.87 & latest Canary-58.0.3017.0 as per steps mentioned in Comment#0 and not observed any crashes on launch chrome . Please check the "Use Hardware acceleration available" checkbox in chrome://settings & check the issue. If still issue persists, please let us know the crash ID for further triage. Please find the attached screencast for reference. Thank you!!

I can still reproduce the behavior with Chrome Version 57.0.2987.98 (64-bit). I have Use hardware acceleration when available obviously checked. Interestingly enough there is no crash ID associated with the GpuProcessHostUIShim: The GPU process crashed! crashes (an I have crash reports enabled).

I'm not sure what we do next in cases like this. Do we blacklist? Try repro on hardware?

I also found "Chrome causes segfault in i965_dri.so" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1371834 One user confirms this with i915 driver on Lenovo x220. Another on Toshiba satellite A200. One user says this started in 38, occurs in 39 and 40. And did not occur in 37. Another points out that it is kernel version dependent (for Chrome 38+, 37 was fine): "Ok. Just tested quite a few kernels. Chrome 38+ does not segfault when browsing to chrome webshop with the following: linux-image-3.16.0-031600-generic linux-image-3.16.1-031601-generic linux-image-3.16.7-031607-generic linux-image-3.17.1-031701-generic linux-image-3.18.0-031800rc2-generic Chrome 38+ segfaults when browsing to chrome webshop with the following: linux-image-3.15.10-031510-generic linux-image-3.13.0-39-generic linux-image-3.13.0-32-generic and with every other kernel that I have tested with a version number lower than that." The ubuntu bug points to crbug.com/415681 . That bug was WontFix'd with a claim it was not reproducable in M46 (this bug has it in M56). The ubuntu bug also claims a fix was released in 2015, I assume it means M46 stopped reproducing it. So maybe something regressed?
