Copy by selecting and Paste using middle click broken on Linux

Project Member Reported by jainabhi...@chromium.org, Feb 2 2017

Issue description

chrome version: 57.0.2984.0 dev
linux 4.4.0-60-generic
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu (xubuntu)
DISTRIB_RELEASE=16.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=xenial
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS"

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Copy by selecting in a terminal window and Paste using middle click

What is the expected result?
User should be able to paste data in Chrome

What happens instead?
The issue occurs immediately when user left clicks in a form blank.
User selects text in a terminal window and then left click the blank Form.
The highlight is gone from the selected text and the primary clipboard is cleared.

Happens even on a fresh install of 57.0.2984.0 dev (64-bit)
Happens in incognito mode

To eliminate False Positive
1. working on a different machine with Chrome 57.0.2984.0 dev (64-bit) or above where you first started experiencing this issue ?
--yes. and still occurring on Version 57.0.2987.19 (Official Build) dev (64-bit). i have tried on every ver since 2984 and they've all been broken.
--I just rescued someone from the gloppy grip of the Windows 10 cancer with a fresh install of Xubuntu and it still happens.

2. Can you replicate this issue using Firefox or any other browser ?
-- no just the chrome dev channel, the normal version doesn't have this issue.
-- two stage clipboard works perfectly in Firefox but Firefox is slower than chrome by a long shot. I only use it for sites that break in chrome like slacker

3. If you have access to other machines, can you see if you can replicate the behaviour there as well ? Or does it only impact Linux ?
-- Linux is the only platform that i have that has the two stage clipboard..
-- Windows barely can handle two mouse buttons let alone 3.. And, I haven't used Gates's Folly as primary OS since '96 :)
-- I haven't tried on OS X because it doesn't use the middle button in the GUI toolkits, only an xterm window.
-- I should knock together a BSD box to test on :) i believe free/open/netbsd and darwin/osx86 have the two stage clipboard..
