VR: Occasional failure for radio buttons, combo boxes and checkboxes (zoom related?)

Project Member Reported by sko...@chromium.org, Feb 2 2017

Issue description

Currently you can't input (click) into radio buttons or click on combo boxes & make selection in web pages. This needs to be supported for Fishfood.

Isn't this already covered by issue 661243 ?

Or maybe these aren't pop ups so perhaps it's different.

Should there just be one issue to make sure all HTML input is working in VR?
We discussed creating separate bugs for some of them, as it could be that
some are higher priority to support than others, etc.
Summary: Support input via radio buttons, combo boxes and checkboxes (was: Support input via radio buttons and combo boxes)
Radio buttons work just fine, and so do checkboxes, as far as I can tell.

Do you have a specific example page where it's not working?
Yeah, in today's Canary radio and check boxes don't work here:
http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_form_input_types.asp

Dropdowns don't work here:
http://www.echoecho.com/htmlforms11.htm
Checkboxes and radio buttons are working just fine on that page in today's Canary and on debug ToT builds.
When I click on a radio button, I get no response. Same with checkboxes.
Is the input area super small or something?
The input area seems normal. You're not doing something like clicking on the text next to the button?
No, I'm trying to click inside the radio/checkbox. The element highlights
when the pointer is over it, but clicking on the element has no effect.
And your clicks are going through in general? Like clicking on the buttons works?
Yeah, clicking on links and buttons works.
Another example: going to www.echoecho.com/tooldropdown.htm and trying to
click on "CHOOSE A LINK" - nothing happens. The input element gets focused
(it highlights), but nothing happens when you click on it.
Dropdowns are definitely expected to not work right now. I can't even imagine what might cause a radio button or checkbox to not work.

Tested radio buttons on http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_form_input_types.asp on 58.0.3001.3 on Pixel XL.
Radio buttons worked for me. Didn't find checkboxes on that page.

Stephen - any idea why we're seeing different results here?

I'm still not able to get this to work. For example on www.echoecho.com/htmlforms09.htm, if I scroll to the bottom of the page and try to click on "milk" or "cheese," nothing happens.

We took a look, and we had both a repro and had it working. When it reproed, there was some zoom on the page (presumably triggered by the touch points on the headset when putting it into the phone, since we had just exited and reentered VR).

I'll look at whether we can support input with zoom.
Input while zoomed should currently work... and appears to be working just fine for me.
Input while zoom does appear to work when I try to trigger this manually. I wonder if there is possibly a race condition somewhere that causes zoom to get out of sync.

Bill, can you reliably reproduce the failure? I expect that I'm not zooming the same way you are.
Bill, is this tracking anything in the new UI? If not, let's close it.

Marking as Archived - we've changed input routing and UI frameworks. I haven't seen any reports of this in a long time. If this does re-occur, please file a new bug. (There is a similar issue of input not working with cross-origin iframes and a flag enabled to run oopif).
