hung renderer dialog popup invisible when using BrowserDialogTest |
|||||||||||||
Issue descriptionWhen using BrowserDialogTest to invoke the hung renderer dialog the dialog is invisible. Full command-line invocation: browser_tests.exe --gtest_filter=BrowserDialogTest.Invoke --dialog=HungRendererDialogViewBrowserTest.InvokeDialog_default --interactive Passing --disable-gpu causes the dialog to appear.

Not P3. Compositing folks, can you help figure this out?
,
Feb 7 2017
Could r448713 have fixed this?
,
Feb 8 2017
No, I rebased and it still requires --about-gpu to show up.
,
Feb 8 2017
Sorry, "--disable-gpu"

This issue has been Available for over a year. If it's no longer important or seems unlikely to be fixed, please consider closing it out. If it is important, please re-triage the issue. Sorry for the inconvenience if the bug really should have been left as Available. If you change it back, also remove the "Hotlist-Recharge-Cold" label. Most tests run with GPU renderering nooped, for speed of execution. You can use --enable-pixel-output-in-tests to restore pixel output. Can you confirm if that fixes the issue for you?
,
Feb 12 2018
It does not resolve the issue. Passing "enable-pixel-output-in-tests" doesn't appear to do anything different than simply passing no flags in. I should also note that this workaround is only required on Windows, and I assume GPU rendering is disabled on all platforms.
,
Feb 12 2018
Thanks for the info! Reassigning to a Windows person.

May 11 2018
I try to take a look today, but searching the codebase for BrowserDialogTest and HungRendererDialogViewBrowserTestMd produced no results. Are they removed? (if yes, then I'll close this bug) Are they renamed? (if yes, can someone point me to the new location/name?)
,
May 11 2018
I think the way to get this is now ./browser_tests --gtest_filter=BrowserUiTest.Invoke --test-launcher-interactive --ui=HungRendererDialogViewBrowserTest.DISABLED_InvokeUi_Default --gtest_also_run_disabled_tests ./browser_tests --gtest_filter=BrowserUiTest.Invoke --test-launcher-interactive --ui=HungRendererDialogViewBrowserTest.DISABLED_InvokeUi_MultiplePages --gtest_also_run_disabled_tests
,
May 12 2018
So I run the two tests using the commands provided in #11, and both dialogs show up fine. Still, the tests never finish by themselves. If I click the Exit button on the dialog, then the tests finish as passing. This is no longer a GPU issue (I think). So unassign myself because I don't know how to fix the test hung issue.
,
May 12 2018
Sorry for the confusion, you're seeing the expected behavior. We force --disable-gpu when running the tests so that they're useful in the meantime, see https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/chrome/browser/ui/test/browser_ui_browsertest.cc?type=cs&sq=package:chromium&l=82. Remove that line to get the original problem. If you did do that and you're still seeing it pop up, I suppose it's possible it was fixed since February. I'll double-check when I get back in on Monday.
,
May 14 2018
As promised, I checked this morning and it's still invisible without --disable-gpu. I noticed if you click where the dialog should show up, you get a weird piece of the dialog to appear. Attaching a screenshot of that in case it's useful information. Also, the problem isn't specific to this one test; if you want another that's not disabled you can try: browser_tests.exe --gtest_filter=BrowserUiTest.Invoke --test-launcher-interactive --ui=AskGoogleForSuggestionsDialogTest.InvokeUi_default
,
May 14 2018
Thanks. I'll take another look later. browser_tests run with --in-process-gpu, which isn't our shipping code path. So it's not surprising it's broken from time to time.
,
May 22 2018
So I sync to ToT Chromium, remove the --disable-gpu from https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/chrome/browser/ui/test/browser_ui_browsertest.cc?type=cs&sq=package:chromium&l=82, build browser_tests, and run the a few tests bsep@ pointed out using the args as provided. Pop up window renders fine on my side. I don't know how to proceed as I can't reproduce.
,
May 22 2018
bsep@: could you please sync to the ToT, remove the kDisableGPU code, and run again? If rendering is fine, please land the CL to remove the switch and close the bug. If you can still repro, let's talk again what could be different between your bot and mine.

Still reproduces just like in comment #14. As per separate discussion, we have the same GPU and I just tried updating the drivers, so I'm not sure what's going on. about:gpu information: Graphics Feature Status Canvas: Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable Flash: Software only. can you run browser_tests with --use-cmd-decoder=validating and see if that fixes the issue?
,
May 23 2018
#20: Doesn't seem to help.
,
May 23 2018
Geoff, any insights on this? It seems both of us have the same machine, but I can't repro but bsep@ can. Looking at Chromium about:gpu, I am using validating command buffer, he is using passthrough. However, I am not sure how browser_tests is affected, and how we can make sure browser_tests run with one validator and not the other?
,
May 23 2018
I'm not sure what would be causing the bug but it's a bit messy how the decision is made. Many test suites (including browser_tests I suppose) run with experiments enabled taken from this file: https://cs.chromium.org/chromium/src/testing/variations/fieldtrial_testing_config.json . By default, running a build of chrome will not use any experiments.
,
May 31 2018
So I verified. This has nothing to do with weather it's validating or passthrough command buffer. It looks like your display has a scale of 1.5 where mine is 1. When I switched mine to 1.5, I can repro.

These are two rendering with --ui-show-composited-layer-borders
,

It looks to me when rendering with GLRenderer, its correct on the x translate, but on y translate, its shifted up. Also, it's clipped to original size, not the original * scale size.
