Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/55.0.2883.87 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. On my Windows 7, since november 2016 (Chrome 54) 2. Roboform extension won't run What is the expected behavior? According to Roboform support, it should use Chrome native messaging to launch a "helper". I see it in Chrome on my Windows 10 or with parameters, see Comments What went wrong? Extension icon stay gray in "Loading" WebStore page: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/roboform-password-manager/pnlccmojcmeohlpggmfnbbiapkmbliob Did this work before? Yes Earlier in november 2016 and still working with Windows 10 Chrome version: 55.0.2883.87 Channel: stable OS Version: 6.1 (Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2) Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0 Please see my question there in "Google Chrome Help Forum" https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/n12alpBZlf0 to have all screenshot. To know: if I launch Chrome (up to date) on my Windows 7 with --enable-logging or --allow-running-insecure-content it works ... and no problem in logs ... as it works

I also check on my Windows 7 Policies in registry: https://www.chromium.org/administrators/policy-list-3#NativeMessaging and no Software\Policies\Google\ exist in users or root or local_machine or current_user

Hi, Sorry for delay, I didn't get a notice. You did it well, but the extension is grey (not available). To install it you have to launch the installer (which will also install the extension in chrome). You may find it there: https://www.roboform.com/ As said, no problem on my Windows 10, but only on my Windows 7 Pro (work PC)

I am puzzled. My Chrome Version: 56.0.2924.87 (64-bit) By launching Chrome with "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --allow-running-insecure-content all is OK (also works with "--log-net-log=D:\chrome_startup.txt" for example) But without nope -> stays grey with "Loading..." message Do you know way to have "Chrome Native Messaging" error/problem feedback without logs activated (with logs activated Roboform works...) ?

Marking it as 'Untriaged' to get more inputs from dev. Thanks.

This sounds like it could be an issue with the Roboform extension. Have you tried reaching out to the developer?

Yes I did cf the link with my discussion https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/n12alpBZlf0 and as it works on my Windows 10 and only fails on my work PC (Windows 7 Enterprise, version forced by job). The both ways to make it work: - activate logs - launch Chrome in --allow-running-insecure-content => but then no way to understand where is the problem ! And I am not alone to have the problem, on link up Steve33056 also has it. Something related to a "security" check ? I don't know. I didn't notice something in Event viewer.

For info, in january, after asked by Roboform support I also uninstall Chrome, tried with 32 bits and 64 bits, also removed my local account: You wrote (2017/01/06 07:18 am EDT) Hi, For you to know, I uninstall Chrome, deleted all Chrome in %APPDATA%, created a new profile, reinstalled Chrome in 32 bit or 64 bits but nothing worked. By running Chrome "As admin", same result. During Chrome start in my Windows 7, I notice for some mili a red icon on the roboform ico, then it stay grey. And by comparing the "helper", rf-chrome-nm-host.exe, isn't launched by Chrome on Windows 7 (ok with --allow-running-insecure-content and logs activated). So I think it's more up to Chrome vs perhaps Windows 7 security than with Roboform ! Ot ?

Hi, is it possible to get "more inputs" from devs ? A way to get logs without activating logs ? I also tried with Sawbuck: the extension still not work but I didn't notice an error except "COMSPEC is not set" And between 2 "Created context" for Roboform ext WARNING: Destroy invalid entry. WARNING: Messed up entry found. WARNING: Destroy invalid entry. To note: with sawbuck, if I launch Chrome with --allow-running-insecure-content, there is no ERROR "COMSPEC is not set"

over to sergeyu@ for native messaging investigation.

What's the error that the extension gets from the API? Does it work when you run chrome with --enable-logging, but without --allow-running-insecure-content?

After looking a this bug again this doesn't look related to native messaging at all. --allow-running-insecure-content certainly doesn't affect native messaging in any way. Did you contact Roboform support about this issue?

Hi, If I launch Chrome with one of following --allow-running-insecure-content and/or --enable-logging it works. (it also work @home on my Win10 PC) Yes I contacted Roboform, I had a case open their side but they think it's Chrome's side Please also check what I wrote in replies there: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/n12alpBZlf0 I put some more infos there. And other people told there they have the same problem. Best regards, Arfy

Reply from Roboform support: ================================================================ replied (2017/06/26 07:51 am EDT): Hello, thanks for your message. If RoboForm native messaging host executable file rf-chrome-nm-host.exe was registered properly (as we can read from your messages it was) it's up to Chrome to run the process along with the extension. We cannot know why your Chrome only does so when the option --allow-running-insecure-content is on the command line. Neither we have any grounds to blame the issue on RoboForm, nor fix it. Please notice the latest RoboForm extension for Chrome can run in a standalone mode that takes RoboForm online account the extension in Chrome will read your saved logins from. Please make sure to update the extension in your Chrome. Thanks in advance. ================================================================

I just want to confirm that it's still happening from the first notification on January 2017. In my case, it started suddenly on August 2017 after 1 month of inactivity in this computer (pending OS updates, chrome updates, etc). Chrome starts but Roborform is just disabled. Re-installing doesn't change the behaviour. Google Chrome for Windows 64 bits 60.0.3112.101 Roboform 8.3.9.5 |
