@torreydale--Could you please try the steps below :
open terminal and execute the command "sudo apt-get update" and then relaunch chrome and check.. Please write us with your observations.

Thanks!
I do this everyday. The problem is the version in the repository, which
is 53.0.2785.143-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.1145. The latest Google Chrome version
is 56.0.2924.87.

torreydale@ In order to get update for google chrome, we need to add repositories to the linux machine, in order to do that run the following commands in the terminal, type the password for the user when prompted.

"
$ wget -q -O - https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub | sudo apt-key add -
$ sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google.list'
$ sudo apt-get update
"

After that run the following command

"
sudo apt-get install google-chrome-stable
"
By this command, chrome will be updated to the latest version.

Please follow this steps and let us know your observations.

Thank You...
I have Google Chrome running. The issue was with Chromium. I'm not using
Chromium or trying to anymore. I tried installing it to see what the
problem was. I use Linux Lite2.8, and users at the Linux Lite forum were
noticing that Chromium wasn't updating.
