Context menu localization issue in Italian - "Search Google with [Word]"

Project Member Reported by melodychu@chromium.org, Jan 19 2017

Issue description

Report from user:

Pasting the translated bug report:

"When you highlight a word to look for with Google, the corresponding menu item has a mistranslation. It is a grave error of Italian, this trend for several years and several versions of Chrome, which seems strange to me by a major company like Google that also is a point of reference for the accessibility of products in a multitude of languages.

The correct translation is 'look [word] on Google'.

Currently however, the translation is 'Google search with [word]', which is totally wrong (attached screenshot)."

Hi all,

after checking on TC the related message IDs, we were not able to identify the Italian string in need of localization amendments - unless you have identified a message ID which is not visible to us and that we should take into consideration for this Italian string to be resubmitted, this front-end message is displayed with the current layout because:
1. the message you see on the UI is the result of imperfect placeholders (to be fixed by the engineering team)
OR
2. the message you see on the UI is the result of wrong concatenation (again, to be fixed by the engineering team)

I am adding Di Mu to this thread, for her to have the chance to take a look at this bug and address us to the engineering POC, if possible

Thanks

Chiara

Which Chrome version is it? Is "Search Google with [Word]" the english version?
I just searched with cerca con on tc, found

Hi all,

I reached out to our ops teams and fixed the placeholder internally.

Message ID: https://tc.corp.google.com/btviewer/messagedetail?project=ChromeClient&msgId=2283235134560656780

Message and placeholder have been updated accordingly in IT.

This bug is now fixed.

Thanks

Chiara
