Issue descriptionAdvisory: CVE-2016-8399 Details: https://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/detail?vulnId=CVE-2016-8399 CVSS severity score: 7.6/10.0 Confidence: high Description: An elevation of privilege vulnerability in the kernel networking subsystem could enable a local malicious application to execute arbitrary code within the context of the kernel. This issue is rated as Moderate because it first requires compromising a privileged process and current compiler optimizations restrict access to the vulnerable code. Product: Android. Versions: Kernel-3.10, Kernel-3.18. Android ID: A-31349935.

The following revision refers to this bug: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/third_party/kernel/+/07ba9c1e305ecd700e726b66a51e6e11338dedac commit 07ba9c1e305ecd700e726b66a51e6e11338dedac Author: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> Date: Mon Dec 05 18:34:38 2016 UPSTREAM: net: ping: check minimum size on ICMP header length Prior to commit c0371da6047a ("put iov_iter into msghdr") in v3.19, there was no check that the iovec contained enough bytes for an ICMP header, and the read loop would walk across neighboring stack contents. Since the iov_iter conversion, bad arguments are noticed, but the returned error is EFAULT. Returning EINVAL is a clearer error and also solves the problem prior to v3.19.
