Vietnamese keyboard changes written symbol

Project Member Reported by jasonkliu@chromium.org, Jan 17 2017

Issue description

App Version (from "Chrome Settings > About Chrome"): M55, M57 canary
iOS Version: 10.2.1
Device: 6S

Steps to reproduce:
1. Switch iPhone language to Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt). Issue is reproducible with US Region.
2. Type "dantri.com.vn" in the address bar
3. Press Go

Observed behavior:
In #2 above, the URL is autocorrected to "đantri.com.vn" in the Omnibox. This is before "Go" is pressed.
In #3, the URL does not load ("dantri.com.vn" is valid, while "đantri.com.vn" is not).

Expected behavior:
In #2 above, there should be no autocorrect (see Safari screenshot).

Frequency: 5/5
<number of times you were able to reproduce>

Additional comments:
Originally reported from App Store. Image attached.
I can't repro the first case specifically (La bàn => La ân) but there is some weirdness going on between là and â, where the first changes into the second.

This doesn't repro on Android. The difference between the two URLs is the first character should be "d" and it renders as a crossed "đ".

Looks like not specific Chrome. Reproduced across OS, with Safari and Spotlight search too. I tried to search "Safari" in spotlight and the input is changed incorrectly.

Reproduced on iPhone7 10.2.1, iPad Pro 10.1.1

If this is an iOS bug, not chrome-specific, can an iOS developer file a bug against apple for it?
Labels: -Needs-Feedback
Tested on latest beta build M60.0.3112.72 in iPhone7(iOS 10.2.1), iPhone6s plus(iOS 10.3.1), iPhone 6 plus(iOS 11) and iPad Air(iOS 11)

Steps followed as per comment#0, the Vietnamese text is getting auto corrected on entering the text for second time in the same tab. Below are the updated steps

Steps to reproduce:
1. Fresh install chrome or clear browsing data and launch chrome
2. Enter Vietnamese text in omnibox "dantri.com" and tap on go button
3. Now clear the text in omnibox
4. Reenter same text "dantri.com"

Observed result: Notice that on entering a letter "a" the first letter "d" is changed in to "đ"

Note: In safari the auto correct of the text is not happening when the text is reentered in the same tab.

Can someone with an iOS device check to see if this erroneous autocorrection is still happening?

Could you test again and see if it is still an issue with latest versions of iOS?

This still reproducible on iPhone6s, iOS10.3.3, iPhone7+ 11.1 beta#2.
Steps from original report are still valid.

Just a note, you don't need to Change the device language to Vietnamese to repro, you can simply Add a Keyboard of Vietnamese. Goto Settings > General > Keyboard > Add a new keyboard.

Marking as Untriaged; regular iOS triage should pick this up.

Maybe there's a way to configure the textfield to not do the correction. This needs some investigation.
Status: WontFix (was: Assigned)
I cannot reproduce this anymore. FWIW, we already disable autocorrection:
    [self setAutocorrectionType:UITextAutocorrectionTypeNo];

I think the original report is a poor inline autocomplete suggestion.
