Issue descriptionUserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/55.0.2883.87 Safari/537.36 Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. open a webpage on Windows 10 on a device with a touchscreen & precision touchpad 2. pinch to zoom on the trackpad 3. What is the expected behavior? The page should zoom in smoothly, like when doing pinch to zoom on the touchscreen, and use the same zoom method. What went wrong? The zoom is gerky and uses an alternative method (which seems to only increase the default font-size). Did this work before? N/A Chrome version: 55.0.2883.87 Channel: stable OS Version: 10.0 Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0

Unable to reproduce this issue on Windows-10 HiDPI (Dell precision 3800) using chrome latest stable M55-55.0.2883.87 by following steps mentioned in the original comment. Observed no lagging in zooming the webpage using trackpad. nicolas@ - Are you able to reproduce this issue consistently including incognito mode? Are you observing this behavior across all webpages?

I can reproduce it in incognito mode too, and all websites seem to have the same behavior. I made a video here comparing the touch screen and trackpad behavior: https://youtu.be/Krmrb2VwU4E Note that by "precision touchpad" I was referring to touchpad that implement the new "precision" API that Microsoft introduced with Windows 10. I know Surface devices like the Surface Book are one of them. I am not sure the Dell device you used is using this API.

Unable to reproduce this issue on Windows-10 using chrome latest stable #57.0.2987.133, seems to be this issue is specific to surface book. Requesting some one from MTV team to look in to it. nicolas@ - Could you please recheck this issue on chrome latest stable #57.0.2987.133 and kindly update the latest behavior of the bug. Thanks!

brajkumar@ On any page, when you pinch-zoom on the trackpad, does the page's zoom level change? If so, that is what the issue is referring to. Repro'd on stable 57.0.2987.133 and Canary 60. A preferred behavior would be a smooth zoom that avoids resizing the page. Zooming with two fingers on a touch screen yields this behavior.

brajkumar@ It doesn't seem to be specific to the Surface Book: I can reproduce the problem with a Lenovo Yoga laptop too, that's with the latest stable 64bit Chrome (57.0.2987.133) and Windows 10. I did some tests and it appears that when doing "pinch to zoom" on the trackpad, a "wheel" event which has "ctrlKey" property set to true is sent so it's not surprising a zoom is performed. When doing pinch to zoom on the touchscreen, this event isn't sent. Here is the simple test file: http://www.warpdesign.fr/tests/pinch_to_zoom.html I can do more tests if you want.

I am seeing the same issue. I have Dell XPS 15 with 4K touchscreen, Windows 10, Chrome 58. Zooming on touchpad works as expected - the screen goes bigger and the zoom indicator changes zoom level accordingly. But when zooming using pinch to zoom directly on the screen, it zooms, but the Zoom indicator stays on 100%. It's like touchscreen zooming goes through diffrent pipeline than standard touchpad/Ctrl+ +/- zooming.

Any update on this? Two more people have confirmed the problem now.

I think it would be nice to have the option to disable the old behavior completely. I would rather use pinch-zooming everywhere, it's smoother and doesn't feel like it's trying to hack the page into zooming. The option to set all of the behavior to pinch would also let us use the pinch behavior on linux, since (as of now) I can't find any way to get pinch gestures bound to a zoom command on a track pad. I do still have this issue on Windows though, version 67.0.3396.99. |
