Some mp4 videos don't play correctly on ChromeOS

What is the expected result?

Loading the main page should produce a video image background. 

What happens instead?

It starts to play for 1 second then stops


This happens for all sites made by wix. The video image background works on chrome and all browsers on windows 10, but not on chrome on chrome OS, which means none of my chrome laptops at work sadly, leaving me a bit gutted.

@danlad99 -- Thank You for the report.
Tested the issue on Latest Stable# 55.0.2883.87 and Latest Canary# 57.0.2982.0 on Windows, Mac and Linux and could not reproduce the issue.

Could you please provide us the OS details, Chrome version details and if possible any screen cast for the issue which would help us triage further.

I debugged this issue a bit.  It plays for me on Linux Chrome 57 and Mac Chrome 55 but not ChromeOS Chrome 56.

Summary: Some mp4 videos don't play correctly on ChromeOS (was: not supporting wix video backgrounds)
Looks like it may be a codec issue.  When trying to play the mp4 directly on ChromeOS it starts then stalls:

The webm version works fine:

I'm not sure who owns video codecs on ChromeOS.  abodenha, can you route?

Also the site appears to be disabling the video background when TouchEvent feature detection success (chrome://flags#touch-events) - there's no <video> element at all in that case.

That's probably because Wix explicitly doesn't support video backgrounds on mobile: https://support.wix.com/en/ticket/66c48168-fd18-4d31-b263-9e020a9393c3 - so we can ignore that for chromium purposes.

I could repro this bug on CrOS but only on CrOS. As per c#4, this is a codec issue.
Add Dale to see if there is anything media team need do.

Fails on my pixel:

Generally this is a bad video file, but +posciak in case it's interesting.
