Problem enabling

Reported by jkicos...@gmail.com, Jan 12 2017

Issue description

I am not able to enable this application in the Google Play Store. I have a Nexus 6p with the latest update . THIS TEMPLATE IS FOR FILING BUGS ON THE ANDROID SYSTEM WEBVIEW. GENERAL WEB
BUGS SHOULD BE FILED USING A DIFFERENT TEMPLATE!

I presume you're running Android N, and an Amazon application is asking you to update WebView? What you need to do is update Chrome instead; in Android N, WebView is provided by the Chrome package unless Chrome is disabled, so by updating Chrome, you also get a WebView update.

Feel free to reopen this bug if what I've presumed is wrong.

Jkicos: If you are using an Amazon app, which one is it and what version? I tried to repro it yesterday with Amazon shopping, but could not repro.

thanks for your help

I am actually not able to enable it in the Google Play Store. Yes I have
enjoyed 7.1.1 Android n, and the newest version of Google Chrome 55 I
believe.

Comment 4 by sgu...@chromium.org, Jan 12 2017

ok, so it is not an Amazon app that is forwarding you to this playstore link for updating WebView, is this correct?

Comment 5 by jkicos...@gmail.com, Jan 12 2017

Correct, i am trying to enable and use it myself in the Play Store. The
enable button is there but I cannot turn it on, once it did Flash to update
but since then I cannot get it to do anything

Comment 6 by sgu...@chromium.org, Jan 12 2017

In Android N and above WebView app is disabled by default. The WebView implementation is delivered as part of the Chrome apk. As long as your Chrome is up to date, your WebView is up to date.

Comment 7 by jkicos...@gmail.com, Jan 12 2017

Okay why does it say that I need to enable it then in the Play Store Kama
it displays as disabled

Comment 8 by sgu...@chromium.org, Jan 12 2017

Which app/web page says you need to enable it?

there seems to be a Kama app in playstore. can somebody in test team check if it sends people to enable system webview in Android N.

thanks.
sgurun@ - sure, we will test and update!
Thanks!
I did quick check on Nexus 6/ with latest N version and LG V20 (LG-H990ds)/ NRD90M with chrome/webview M53/M55/M57, i don't see issue like taking to Google play store from Kama app to enable webview.

jkicos762@, Can you please provide the below version from your phone, so that we can replicate the same scenoria/version

Device : Model?
Android version : Setting > About Phone > Build number ?
Chrome version : Setting > Apps > Chrome Version?
Kama Apps version : ?

When do you see this issue? when kama apps is launched for first time or you click on any specific link or pages?

Thanks

No answer to #11, so I'll just dup this to the canonical one.
