Pressing and holding ctrl-w doesn't keep closing tabs anymore

Reported by ja...@jamesreed.name, Jan 10 2017

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/55.0.2883.87 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open lots of tabs
2. Press and hold ctrl-w

What is the expected behavior?
Expected: lots of tabs are closed as ctrl-w keeps sending

What went wrong?
Only one tab is closed

Did this work before? Yes Unsure, but not that long ago. Sorry.

Chrome version: 55.0.2883.87 Channel: stable
OS Version: 6.3
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0

It was an intended change, see issue 626154 "Most browser accelerators shouldn't repeat when keys are held".

You can press Ctrl-Shift-W now.
ctrl-shift-w isn't the same functionality. Having to press w lots of times is a regression in functionality instead of being able to hold it down to get rid of a lot of tabs (I frequently have 30+ open). Is there some way to re-enable this?

You can use the awesome AutoHotkey: install it and put the following script into your Windows Start Menu - "Startup" folder.

#ifWinActive ahk_class Chrome_WidgetWin_1
	$^w::send ^w
#ifWinActive

I see, I'll try that out. Is there somewhere I can complain about this change and petition/add to petitioning for it to be reinstated, or is there no point in that?

Well, as you can see in the linked issue 626154 there was a long discussion and concerns regarding Ctrl-W specifically so I guess it's decided...

woxxom@ Thanks for update,
As per comment #5,on pressing and holding of ctrl+w doesn't continuously close tabs, hence changing the status to WontFix
