Chromevox Next No Longer Reads Emoji

Reproduction Steps: 
1.Navigate to any text containing emoji.
2.Arrow over the emoji.
3. Chromevox Next instead reads some numbers and letter associated with the image, not the name of the emoji.

This doesn't reproduce in general.

The Hangouts chat text field does appear to have this problem. Specifically, emoji get replaced with images as you type. The image itself is unlabelled.
