I have a general concern about security issues as well permissions and admin rights. I am not sure how to resolve these issues. Is Chrome ideal for use with imac sierra?

I'm closing it, since this is not a security issue.

Though I personally can recommend you to use Chrome, since I'm using it on Mac/Linux/Windows/everywhere :)
