External monitor randomly blacks out while in docked mode

Reported by jackseam...@gmail.com, Dec 28 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 8872.73.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/55.0.2883.103 Safari/537.36
Platform: 8872.73.0 (Official Build) stable-channel edgar

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Connect chromebook to external monitor via HDMI and put it docked mode by closing the lid
2. External monitor will black out at random
3.

What is the expected behavior?
Run chromebook in docked mode without external monitor blacking out

What went wrong?
Acer chromebook 14 hooked up to HP27es monitor via HDMI and usb mouse/keyboard. Closing the lid and running in docked mode will result in external monitor blacking out at random intervals. Once blacked out, the only way to wake it back up is to sign out/restart machine. Keyboard strokes, mouse movement or lifting lid will not resolve the blackout.

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 55.0.2883.103  Channel: stable
OS Version: 8872.73.0
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0

I have experienced this problem with 2 separate Acer 14 chromebooks.

I am having same problem using the Acer Chromebook 14 Gold Aluminium connected to external LCD via HDMI. I running on version 59.0.3071.47 (Beta channel).

There is no progress since version 57 where I captured this problem for first time.

Acer Chromebook14 CB3-431 brand new out of the box, after owning an original Samsung Chromebook for 4 years and no issues, I sold it to my friend and "upgraded" to this thinking better processor, more RAM, and a bigger display with 32GB strorage would be great!....NOT.. nothing but issues.. very disappointed.. may go back to Windows PC or laptop at this point.
This screen blackout issue really makes me wonder if Google and Chromebooks ever will be as good as owning a "real" computer.
With latest Chrome OS upgrade I can close the lid and keep working in my
monitor. Give it a shot.

@82, thanks for the heads-up. I'm at the same version, platform, ARC.

I've had my Lenovo N22-20 up and docked to my 23" HDMI monitor for over 6 hours now with no screen jitters or blanking screen. I used it @ 2.5 hours, then walked away for a couple of hours, then just hit the keyboard space bar to bring it back. I have been back on for about 3 more hours with a clean crisp display.

I did my Outlook for Android app that always seemed to cause the issue while playing some tunes while doing the usual email, surfing & opening a dozen tabs, etc.

Hopefully the fix is now in Dev and maybe it can make it into Stable 59? Please check it out and report back so 'the crew' can know if it is fixed for you.

I have an ASUS ChromeBox with two monitors. The primary monitor is a highend DELL and from time to time, when I wake from sleep, the primary remains black and the secondary wakes normally. The keyboard and mouse thinks the screen is visible.
Also reporting an issue with Acer Chromebook R11.

It's been months now, has there been any progress?
Also running an Acer R11 and experiencing the exact behavior described here. Is there any data I can provide to help move this along?

Comment 87 by tomt...@gmail.com, Jun 22 2017

Yesterday was bad 6-21-17. The screen on my monitor would go black about every 10 minutes.
Today I have been on the HP chrome book for about 3 hours with no concerns. The screen did shift 2 time and the screen blanked for approx 2 seconds. I checked and am at current OS. Maybe is fixed as this is the longest that the monitor has been stable since Christmas. Was so sick of this crap ordered a new laptop should arrive next week. Just my luck Cheers

Not sure if this is related, unrelated, or perhaps a side effect of the fix. After an update to version 59.0.3071.91 on an Acer Chromebook 14 CB3-431 the HDMI video output goes to a single RGB color after a variable period of time. Audio continues. The color displayed on the remote screen will be one of the colors seen on the screen at the time the video is lost. This occurs both in mirrored and extended screen modes. The single color fills the screen. Note that this change to a single color occurs only after a variable amount of time, ten to twenty minutes. This behavior did not occur prior to 59. If this seems to be unrelated, then perhaps I should file a bug report as I cannot find anything similar to this behavior in the list of known issues.
@88, seeing your comment, I decided to try connecting my HDMI monitor to my Lenovo N22 again and closing the lid to be in docked mode. At first, it seemed to be work and I went about 30 minutes seeing it tear a couple of times, but then I had to go do something. I left it with the external monitor still operating properly.
I came back to it about an hour later to a blank screen, clicked the mouse button and it came alive--Nice!
I ran it for another hour or so and saw the screen tear a few more times, but it held sync. Until it didn't.
So, on Stable channel, it is still 'broken'. This sure is taking a l-o-n-g time to get fixed. Maybe non-Intel chips/CBs is the solution?
i'm having similar issue with asus chromebook, lg monitor, logitech keyboard and mouse. repeatedly pressing the escape key with chromebook in docked mode caused white blank screen in my case. temporary work around is to not to use dock mode leaving the laptop in almost covered mode. no issue so far even with repeated escape key presses.
i switched to beta channel and it worked for me. docked mode with repeated escape key presses did not crash my chromebook. maybe you should give it a try too if you have similar issue.
Acer R11, symptoms very much the same
Any fixes on this issue? I have had this problem for months now on my Samsung Chromebook and LG Ultrawide Monitor.
I tried a variety of things, including a chrome extension that should leave
it on always, nothing worked. Then I saw a suggestion from a user that
he/she went to settings/accesibility, and changed the mouse cursor to
"Large". It worked! Don't ask me why, but I haven't had a problem (other
than a huge cursor) since. As a final test, I wnt back to the normal
cursor and the problem reappeared. Switched back to the large mouse cursor
and everything worked. Please let me know if this works for you.

As a side note, my "research"/Google searches indicated the following
commonalities and differences:

1. All problems I saw were on chromebooks with touchscreens.
2. It is not manufacturer specific.
3. It is not screen size specific.
4. Several suggestions in various fourms suggested updating to the latest
Chrome OS and included a minimum version number. My version was already
newer (and the latest)
5. Some suggested adding the Chrome extension "Keep Awake". It didn't help
(on my Acer R11).
I can't believe it's been almost 2 years and this bug is still common place. I literally bought this device with it's sole purpose to stream HDMI video to my TV, and for the first 30 days it worked fine. It wasn't until after my return period ended did the problem arise! Now I am stuck with this garbage computer that will periodically stop displaying video and the only way to fix it is to restart the entire machine, log back in, go back to find whatever I was watching, and then find the spot where I left off... Absurd!

I am not even going to elaborate on the specifics of the problem since it's been detailed to death as described in this and many other threads. Just know that I have the problem and it NEEDS TO BE FIXED!
I agree it's past time for this to be fixed. Meanwhile, Try changing to a
large mouse pointer in your accessibility settings as a work around.
That's worked for me and several others on this forum and hopefully points
the developers in the right direction.
I'm having the same issue with the new Acer R11 with the N3160 processor. Should I leave this here or create a new issue due to the hardware difference.

I would like to report I am having the same issue with my Chromebook 11 connecting to my LF monitor via a HDMI port.

The monitor works as expected until I switch my Chromebook into dockmode and shortly (20 seconds - 2 minutes) the monitor goes blank but is not in sleep mode as has been described in the previous comments.

OS version: Version 59.0.3071.134 (Official Build) (64-bit
I just bought an ASUS Chromebox. I am using an HP W2082a monitor. The monitor works fine. But, when I sign into my google account, the screen goes black, then the account resets. This happens 3 times. Then, on the fourth reset, the Chromebox restarts with my account signed out. Then, everything is stable until I try to sign in again.

Hello!

All of a sudden, neoter of my chromebooks will extend to two external monitors I have. The specs on the chromebook I am currently using are listed below (the other is an ASUS C100 Flipbook with 32bit and new version of the os).

The first monitor was a Samsung Syncmaster SA350. Worked fine for several months (even though it said it was 'not playing nicely' - but it did) then, all of a sudden, no extension. I thought maybe the monitor was tool old. Yesterday, I bought a Samsung C32F391FWN (32" curved) and am using the HDMI cable supplied with the monitor (the flip has mini hdmi to hdmi which is why i am using this older Samsung Chromebook).

Extension will work properly sometimes. On every occasion, when I plug the cable into the chromebook, the notification pops up in the bottom right acknowledging the monitor model number. The variation is at this point:

(1) sometimes it will then display the extension and i can close the lid on my chromebook and use my ext keyboard and mouse for a while, until the external monitor will go all blue or gray and will not go back until I unplug the HDMI from the chromebook

OR

(2) the monitor will remain black except the monitor info pop up of 'HDMI' and menu for a brief moment. The mouse clear goes into a dark abyss from the chromebook screen. so there is 'space' , but no picture.

And on the asus c100p flip. when i plug in the micro hdmi to hdmi, the computer recognizes the monitor, and there is an extension, as the windows disappear from the chromebook monitor, and the mouse goes into the same abyss, but the screen is not only blank, the power indicator light starts to blink as if nothing is plugged in.

The same problem happens if the chromebook connected to an external display goes into idle mode when in docked mode. When trying to wake up again by using keyobard og mouse nothing happens. You have to start the chromebook all over again to get picture on the external screen.
Reporting the same problem on an Acer Chromebook 14. This issue is unbelievably frustrating, and solidified my decision this is the first and last Chromebook I'll purchase.
No disrespect intended to the fine folks who fix bugs, but it's just a few more weeks until this bug celebrates its one year birthday. It's a year without a fix, and I'm sure the bug fixers are hard at work fixing this, but respectfully, they should consider posting an update on their progress before the one year birthday comes and goes. Otherwise folks might mistakenly believe nobody's working on this bug.
My Acer R11 Chromebook. It seems to work now. I have worked an entire day without an issue. I do not know what to attribute it to however.
Having gone through a flurry of updates recently, I decided to retest the screen blacking out problem. Previously, I followed advice from another user on this forum and switched to a large louse cursor which seemed to work (for months). I disabled the large mouse cursor (accessibility functions) and my Acer R11 chromebook now works just fine.
@103, Mike.cha...@live.com: One option would be to buy a non-Intel Chromebook because it appears this is an Intel-related issue. My Samsung Chromebook Plus has no issues when docked.

@106: Thanks for the info. I'll have to connect my Lenovo N22-20 back to my monitor and give it a try. Last time I did, about a month or more ago, it worked solidly for several hours one day, but the next day it started getting that occasional 'jitter' that led to a blank external monitor after a couple of hours.
I've noticed that if I see the screen jitter/jump/break for a split second that it will eventually go dark after this happens a few times. I still believe it is a sync issue.
Well, I've had my Lenovo N22-20 Chromebook docked with the lid closed the last three days and have not had a single blank or even jittery screen. It's been very solid--like it is supposed to be.

I was first on the Beta OS, 61.0.3163.117, but switched to Stable yesterday when I learned it now has Night Light in Flags. Unfortunately, after the Powerwash, it is at 60.0.3112.114 instead of 61.0.3163.113.
On the Plus side, though, it is rock steady on the latest v60 version of the OS.

Happy birthday, Bug! This bug is a year old now. Check post number one above — it’s dated January 2017. Google should just admit they’re not going to fix this bug. Making all these people report the same bug again and again for a year is just so unfair to people in my humble opinion.
@patr,  Actually, It's even older: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chromebook-central/WGW6CJFSFzY was posted June 3rd, 2016.

I have an Acer "Chromebook 14 for work CPS-471" that is also creates loss of signal incidents to a 46 inch 1080P Westinghouse LD-4268 monitor via HDMI. The loss of signal can be either temporary for 5-10 seconds or permanent requiring a disconnect/connect cycle of the HDMI cable to restore signal. The Chromebook settings show the connected external monitor for short duration loss incidents and show no external monitor at all for permanent incidents. A feedback using shift+ALT+i will be sent. at the next incident and a few after that.
Still doing it...

Similar issue here. Have dual monitors connected to Lenovo USB-C dock via my Thinkpad 13 Chromebook. Monitors continually flicker from Displayport to seaching/black screen and then come back on. I have another non-chrome OS laptop that I have connected to the same exact setup (usb-c dock/monitors) and there are no issues whatsoever.

WTF are these 2 comments about & mean to address ?
comment #124 & #125 by marc...

it is how youtube & google fixing SERIOUS issues ?
almost 2 years old [ RANDOMLY occurring ] problem / bug & no fix or attendance to problem, why not ?

I reported ISSUE / PROBLEM / BUG on several accessions by official CHROME OS ISSUE reporting facility, nobody contacted me back !!!

theoretically [ let assume that 100 % ] RANDOM problems do not occur [ surface ] because of mistake in programming,

when programming mistake is made, problem will be reproduceable ALL TIME EVERY TIME when leading sequence will occur, here PROBLEM occur or not occur [ at random ] therefore problem is not result of programming mistake but DELIBERATE youtube / google intention to make problem RANDOMLY be visible - such RANDOM PROBLEM generator [ based on some specific LOGIC ] is very simple to make !!!

when such RANDOM PROBLEM GENERATOR is activated, RANDOM PROBLEMS start to occur,

how frequently ?
it is up to PROBLEM GENERATOR logic - every day, every hour, every week or so to say !!!
to whom ?
again, it is up to PROBLEM GENERATOR logic too !!!

because this problem was not practically attended for almost 2 years, it seems that youtube / google has INTEREST that PROBLEM GENERATOR is not removed,

I would like that youtube / google people comment on above made ASSUMPTION -;)

Re other issues, including docking stations - please report them in separate bugs.
in relation to comment #127 content,
=====================================

1- BUG has RANDOM occurrence, therefore it is not programming mistake,

2- BUG is not BLANKING external TV but is stopping to display what TV was displaying, PC continue to display [ when brightness is increased to any value except ZERO ] & sound content,

3- when TV is stopping to display what TV was displaying, TV scr colour is set RANDOMLY to any colour [ including BLACK ], but TV is reporting to receive signal from PC,

4- TV continue to be connected to PC & TV is receiving signal from PC [ when TV has no signal on/from HDMI, TV would report on scr; NO SIGNAL ],

5- BUG has occurrence on TV connected by HDMI to PC, as TV is not MONITOR,

I hope that my above comments shall clarify mis-understanding of this RANDOM BUG -;)

iPrevYou - YouTube™ Player - Chrome Web Store.mhtml
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/iprevyou-youtube-player/blijlgfnjhnhmnaldaiienmjggbjhbaa

which is equivalent to apple safari picture-in-picture player to play youtube videos outside web browser - it is APP & not browser extension,

started to play music videos & after several min [ about 20 min ] BUG [ 677332 ] did surface again,

except installation of that APP, all set-up on my chromebook did remain same, therefore, I'm reaching [ it is my assumption -;) ] conclusion that it is YOUTUBE [ google own company ] VIDEOS future implemented by GOOGLE to annoy VIP google supporters - CHROMEBOOK VIP USERS !!!

obviously, I may be wrong with my assumption [ conclusion ] & I will apologise for my assumption, unless google can prove OTHERWISE -;)

Since my initial submittal - Comment 117 by scotth1894@gmail.com, Feb 16 - I have sent numerous "Shift-Alt-i" reports. Are these helpful?

BTW a co-worker using a Chromebook 14 has the same issue occurring using the HDMI port. He is using multiple vendors of monitors all of which newer models than what I show - both larger and smaller size. So the issue seems to be video support.

additional info that shall help youtube / google people to fix problem
=========================================================================

I did play youtube music videos in;

- normal TAB &
- incognito TAB

same problem existed in both, after random time elapsed since starting to play my test playlist, BUG [ 677332 ] did surface again, that test was done after LOGIN to account, and than I selected to play offered music videos without login to my account, again same problem did occur irrespective of login or without,

I did another test to play - almost same / identical music videos but this time from;

- chromebook internal storage, and
- external USB disk,

after more than 60 min of play of each selection, BUG [ 677332 ] did not BLANK / did not stop to display video, on my external TV !!!

BUG [ 677332 ] is stopping to display video on external TV connected by HDMI cable only when play videos from youtube, and stopping to display videos is occurring after RANDOM time elapse from starting to do it !!!
=======================
thanks, fresh clean

additional STEPS I did make to eliminate / fix youtube / google BUG [ 677332 ]
================================================================================

1st I did
==========

Reset your Chromebook to factory settings
https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/183084

RESET did not fix problem; to stop to display YOUTUBE [ music ] videos, on my external TV, RANDOMLY occurring stop to display YOUTUBE [ music ] videos resurfaced again in same / identical fashion !!!

2nd I did
==========

Recover your Chromebook
https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/1080595

RECOVERY did move me back to older ver, than I UPDATED MANUALLY chromeOS to current v64/190,

RESET did not fix problem; to stop to display YOUTUBE [ music ] videos, on my external TV, RANDOMLY occurring stop to display YOUTUBE [ music ] videos resurfaced again in same / identical fashion as before RECOVERY !!!

CONCLUSION
============

BUG [ 677332 ] is stopping to display video on external TV connected by HDMI cable only when play videos from youtube, and stopping to display videos is occurring after RANDOM time elapse from starting to do it [ play ], BUG [ 677332 ] is present even when DRASTIC STEPS I made to FIX it [ GOOGLE SHIT ] such as;

- resetting of my chromebook to factory settings, and
- recovery of my chromebook from fresh downloaded chromeOS to USB disk,

about 1 hr & 5 min,

test #3

I did play 37 different music videos for about 3 hrs & 20 min, and TV did not lose VIDEO signal

conclusions

I did play YT music videos from my long playlist of 282 songs, I did start from #70 & I did stop manually [ my req to stop play ] at #155 - 85 music videos nonstop play for about 5hrs & 50min - GOOGLE SHIT [ YOUTUBE service BUG 677332 ] DID NOT hit fan again, all went smoothly to end -;)

therefore, all my tests are confirming RANDOMNESS fact of occurring of that BAG [ 677332 ] - random time interval [ from start of play YT ] to external TV connected by HDMI cable, to moment when TV is losing VIDEO signal but play video sound well on TV,

therefore, all my tests are confirming that it is NOT SOFTWARE BAG in chromeOS or/and in youtobe service, but INTENTIONALLY introduced youtube service future to channel FREE customers into PAID service !!!

test #6 [ 3 short tests one after another ]
============================================

I did play YT music videos from 3 different & short playlists, when uninterrupted play from playlist ended, I used keyboard/mouse to interact with chromebook, therefore I may see this test as 3 independent & shorter YT not-interrupted play tests,

for this test I did use my old previous chromebook I ditched years ago - lenovo 11in, before YT play test I updated chromeOS to current ver [ Version 65.0.3325.209 (Official Build) (64-bit) ], for this test I did use same;

- panasonic 50in FHD TV, and
- HDMI TV cable,
- mouse & keyboard too,

I'm normally using LARGE CURSOR with highlight mouse cursor set to ON,

additionally I'm MIRROR PC SCR to TV, then I'm setting PC SCR brightness to ZERO,

under chromeOS set-up for POWER, I'm using;

- when idle I'm using KEEP DISPLAY ON, and
- sleep when lid is closed I'm using it [ is set ] to OFF,

when using chromebook [ including this test & all my previous tests ], I'm always using it with LID CLOSED, I did play music videos from my 3 lists;

1st- 15 non-stop movies, about 60 min not interrupted play
2nd- 9 non stop movies, about 30 min not interrupted play
3rd- 17 non stop movies, about 70 min not interrupted play

GOOGLE SHIT [ YOUTUBE service BUG 677332 ] DID NOT hit fan again, all went smoothly to end - total play time; about 2 hrs and 10 min -;)

- panasonic 50 in FHD TV, and
- HDMI TV cable, and
- external mouse & keyboard,

I'm normally using LARGE CURSOR with highlight mouse cursor set to ON, additionally I'm MIRROR PC SCR to TV, then I'm setting PC SCR brightness to ZERO, under chromeOS set-up for POWER, I'm using;

when using any chromebooks [ including this test & all my previous tests ], I'm always using it with LID CLOSED,

GOOGLE SHIT [ YOUTUBE service BUG 677332 ] DID NOT hit fan again, all went smoothly to end of playlist of 18 videos in non-stop play for about 1 hr & 15 min !!!

For now, until this issue is fixed, please have YouTube just switch the default player back to FLASH! Yes, you want to move away from FLASH, and you can take all the time you need to figure out why HTML5 is heating up the video circuit to external HDMI devices, but for now...please at least end the pain on the customers' side!

How can we contact the YouTube-folk? If you Chrome-folk can't fix this, how about we go to the source of this problem? This issue is getting more than a little old, and I'm sure you guys are getting sick and tired of us gnawing on your asses! Almost as sick as we are of suddenly having to reboot our computers while simply trying to view a few YouTube videos! How about teaming up to conquer this stupidity?!

Acer Chromebook 14 here, same issue. The large accessibility cursor workaround does NOT work for me.
External monitor flickers randomly, usually after 3-4 hours of use, running extended not docked.

Flickers for up to 20 seconds, each blank taking 0.5 - 3 seconds. Machines recover and are often fine for the rest of the working day.

Three Acer 14" Chromebooks all with latest stable update. Different external monitors and cables, no additional software/plugins/extensions.

Not trying to watch YouTube but may be loaded as part of one or more tabs.
I'm sure this will be fixed soon as Google has a longstanding commitment to quality and support.
Labels: Hotlist-ConOps-CrOS
(Bulk Edit) Adding the new conops Chrome OS hotlist to all open issues with the "#CBC-RS/TC-watchlist" tag, our former tracking tag.
After lowering Resolution to 768P, this issue had stopped; until 68.0.3440.40 (Official Build) beta (64-bit) caused it to recur on Netflix! Instead of improving / fixing this bug, it looks like it's somehow been extended to types of streaming outside of YouTube, and even into display settings with lower resource requirements! WTF!
My Pixelbook randomly blacks out and reboots with external monitor docked. There appears to be nothing initiating the blackout and reboot. This is occurring on the Stable channel with version 67.0.3396.99 and the version prior to this.
All I did was reorder a HDMI cable because I needed one
after getting it hooked up like normal and black screen no matter what I do
no mirror option nothing never had a problem ever
Is rebooting really the only way ?
It'snot like I have allot saved but it's still annoying

hi,
I did post extensively about my experience with that Issue 677332. My last post indicated to CHROMEBOOK users [ like myself ] that issue in Q is no longer present, therefore I would suggest to any user who experience that issue to FOLLOW my set-up EXACTLY to smallest details.

WHY ?
~~~~~~~
Because I do not have any issues while following myself my SET-UP - including inside latest chromeOS ver of 68.0.3440.87 (Official Build) (64-bit).
Under different set-ups I had plenty of very frequent lost of VIDEO signals to TV, but now under my PUBLISHED set-up I did not encounter not even ONE lost of video signal to TV that would result in POWER-OFF my BOTH chromebooks to temporary fix issue.
IMHO - read my posts carefully, follow my published set-up to smallest details & you to may [ shall ] not encounter any more that issue !!!
Regardless of more or setup that I have, this shouldn’t be happening unless there is a power saving mode that I have setup that can be turned off that might help. It is weird because it only happens on YouTube for me. Which would be the last area I would expect it to happen.
My Pixelbook randomly blacks out and reboots with external monitor docked. There appears to be nothing initiating the blackout and reboot. This is occurring on the Stable channel Version 67.0.3396.99 and the previous verson. I have tried 3 different external monitors and about 12 different docks and USB-C to HDMI cables. It happens with ALL of them!
I thought I would chime in here since it is 2018-09-03 and I have now had this issue happen to me.
Acer Chromebook 15 and having identicle black out and crash issue.
Chrome Version 68.0.3440.118 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Doesn't matter the monitor type.
Trying to extend the desktop to the external monitor: invariably at some point in time the extended monitor goes blank.  Sometimes crashing the Acer Chrome 15, sometimes not, but still the chromebook thinks that the monitor is still on as you can roll the mouse off screen and roll it back.  While in the office we tried this with two other non-acer chromebooks.  Easily duplicated the issue on those as well.  Tried with AOC portable USB 3.0 external monitor and an Asus MB169B+ external USB 3.0 monitor.  Exact same issue crept up.  Interestingly enough we often had to reboot the chromebooks for them to even recognize the external USB 3.0 portable monitors.  The middle school has 400 of the smaller version of thee chromebooks so I am going to test it out at the school next week on a few of those devices.
hi fandc201...@gmail.com,
how about you post your findings step by step to help general chromebook users? You did many posts and it's hard to follow.
Thanks,
Jason
Acer Chromebook 14 CB3-431
Version 69.0.3497.95 (Official build) (64-bit)
Platform 10985.56.0 stable channel edgar
Firmware Google_Edgar.7287.167.96
Been using the laptop teamed to a projector for two years without issue. Running with lid open today, screen mirroring via HDMI to a projector, loss of signal to the projector after 40 minutes of playing YouTube videos. This is the first time this has happened, but I note similar units listed above having previously showing this behavior. I realize Fresh and Clean has a workaround apparently involving the use of a large cursor, but noting that this did not apparently work for everyone will await some more permanent resolution of this issue.
Version 69.0.3497.120 (Official Build) (64-bit)
10895.78.0 (Official Build) stable-channel eve
Firmware Google_Eve.9584.160.0
Using my Pixelbook with a USB keyboard and USB mouse along with a Henge Dock (https://hengedocks.com/products/tethered-dock) and encountering this issue as well.
It happens seemingly at random and occurs for ~2 seconds where the monitor blinks completely black. Not sure what the cause of this issue is and can't reliably reproduce it with any behavior. Seems to be what everyone else here is experiencing - it appears that setting my cursor to the big cursor //does// help a little bit (or at least makes it less frequent).
Pixelbook
Version 69.0.3497.120 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Connecting Pixelbook to external monitor 2560x1080 gives me no signal in the external screen, so no image shown. However, the monitor itself is detected by Pixelbook.
When I downsized resolution to 1920x1080 for the ultrawide monitor, the screen works again.
In the past I can connect to 2560x1080 with no problems. What happened?
This is happening daily with my Acer Chromebox CXI3-I58GKM.  I have powerwashed and no change.  Ugh.  Worked well until the Fall when this started.  Feel like I'm using Windows again....
what I'm doing daily [ or as needed ] to not experience this INCONVENIENCE BAG;
- I'm keeping MIRROR scr to tv under settings, and
- I'm asking under POWER settings to;
a- when idle keep display ON
b- do not go to SLEEP when lid closed
start to use chromebook
- open lid, this power it ON [ same login scr is on tv & on chromebbok ],
- login to chromebook account,
when logged in
- f6 to reduce to ZERO chromebook scr brightness,
- close chromebook lid,
- connect to router to use internet & to play youtube content,
because I prefer to use resolution different that may scr & tv under MIRROR is set to use, therefore [ after logged-in ] I go to DISPLAY setup, and
- change chromebook [ it is actually changing tv resolution now ] to my preferred resolution [ normally lower then both of tv & chromebook are using ],
after above very small steps I do not experience my tv going off after several minutes of youtube play,
when finishing using chromebook;
- I close chrome browser [ security ],
- I always select power OFF [ security ],
as I did say before, my steps do not solve Issue 677332 but removed INCONVENIENCE,
