mail.google.com can not provide a secure connection (ERR_BAD_SSL_CLIENT_AUTH_CERT)

Reported by ki...@camoriano.com, Dec 18 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_12_1) AppleWebKit/602.2.14 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/10.0.1 Safari/602.2.14

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. When attempting to open my mail
2.
3.

What is the expected behavior?
That my mail should open, allow me to enter my password

What went wrong?
I receive this: This site can’t provide a secure connection

mail.google.com didn’t accept your login certificate, or one may not have been provided.
Try contacting the system admin.
ERR_BAD_SSL_CLIENT_AUTH_CERT

Did this work before? N/A

Chrome version: 55.0.2883.95 Channel: n/a
OS Version: OS X 10.12.1
Flash Version: 24.0.0.186

I did receive a couple of choices for "trusted sites" i attempted all four of them to no avail. BTW, in googling this issue, it warned me that perhaps my computer clock was not accurate. I double checked that not only the time was correct, but also the date (and they are correct) This problem did start after a power outage when the computer was not shut down properly HELP!

Hrm. mail.google.com should not be requesting a client cert. This error used to happen because some buggy firewall software reported errors wrong, but we've since hacked around this in our error mapping in Chrome 55.

Could you attach a net-internals log per these instructions? Thanks!

kirkc: Could you please provide the log requested in comment #2? If you don't, we'll have to just close this issue, since we can make forward progress here without more information.

Thank you so much for staying on top of this. I did some research on clearing my preferences, quitting the application, rebooted the computer and it is now working as it should.

Again, your response and help is VERY much appreciated. You can close this case at this time.

Kindest Regards,

Kirk Camoriano

Huh. I'm not sure how clearing preferences would change this, but I'm glad it's working for you now! Remnants of some really messed up captive portal maybe?

Anyway, closing the bug.
