Chrome prompts for local account password for an AD account

Reported by andy.jen...@gmail.com, Dec 15 2016

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/54.0.2840.99 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. navigate to chrome://settings/passwords
2. click to show any password
3. get windows prompt

What is the expected behavior?
Since this is an account with which I log in using my Azure Active Directory credentials (i.e. company account), I do not know my local account password. I should get a prompt for either my PIN or my company password instead.

What went wrong?
The password prompt appears to be for a local account password - I don't know exactly, it just says my full name as the user ID (which cannot be changed). This account may have been created from a local account but I thought that password would have been the same as my corporate login, but it is not recognised.

Unfortunately I can't remember the exact process used to create the account, MS doesn't make it easy and have changed the flow since the initial release of Windows 10.

I also cannot find a way to create, reset or change a local password for this account. All the docs I have found concentrate on there being EITHER local accounts OR Microsoft accounts, but this is neither - it is a corporate active directory account.

What makes things more difficult is the previous workaround - disabling reauthentication in the password manager via chrome://flags - has since been removed.

Did this work before? No

Chrome version: 54.0.2840.99 Channel: stable
OS Version: 10.0
Flash Version: Shockwave Flash 24.0 r0

This is directly related to the closed bug:
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=630314#

Just checked in lusrmgr.msc (I am an admin) and my account does not show up in the list of local users, from which I infer that there is no local password for this account.

Thanks for the report.
@wfh, any advice from you appreciated! This seems related to what r410009 was fixing, not sure if the observed behaviour might even be a regression of switching to LOGON32_LOGON_INTERACTIVE?
Able to reproduce the issue on win10 chrome version 55.0.2883.87 and canary 57.0.2955.0 - windows prompt displayed for OS password on clicking show for a website in chrome://settings/passwords when signed in/without signing into browser.

wfh@, Could you please provide an update on this

wfh@, Gentle ping! Could you please update on this.

Thank you!
Just to update, Still able to reproduce the issue on Win 10.0 using latest chrome version 57.0.2970.0.

wfh@ Could you please look into this issue.

Thanks!
