Consider swapping the download and full screen buttons |
|||||
Issue descriptionChrome Version: 57.0.2950.4 OS: macOS 10.12.1 Download took the place of full screen as the rightmost button, which makes it easy to hit by accident and harder to hit the full screen button (which is now tucked between download and volume). I've accidentally downloaded a video instead of full screening it a few times. Is it worth considering swapping them so that full screen stays in the corner where it is now?

I agree with sdy@. The fullscreen button was moved to the left with the recent refresh of the button order but it sounds that the right most position is more consistent with what video players do. Assigned to rachelis@ for UX feedback.

I'd be open to this, though I think there's a bit more complexity in thinking this through than expected. We put things in order of priority, so as we show different sizes across platforms, then we continue to show higher priority things. There's context here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1f0szrZiOfavBZD8kCPLvxbMeSPpq0acIirmQkJVz8y4/edit#slide=id.g15547574a3_5_0 If we think this is a high enough priority change, it could be added to the list of work requesting UX support for Q1.

In case of, technically, the order of the icons has nothing to do with their priority. That means we can keep the fullscreen button on the right and make it the last one to be bundled in the overflow menu. I don't think this is a high priority but it's simple to change :)

Adding Jon to relevant media bugs to help us prioritize. :)

My personal feeling is that we should keep the fullscreen icon locked in the right-most position. That said, I recognize that the adaptive media controls was a thought-through proposal and I don't have all the data here and don't want to create churn just because PMs changed. We should absolutely wrestle with this issue as part of the controls refresh. Let me spend some time data gathering to determine whether or not this is something we should address sooner.

dahlke@, FWIW, I wouldn't be surprised that the design is an oversight. Chrome used to drop the buttons from the right to the left making the right-most button the most likely to drop. Making the fullscreen button unfortunately the first one to go out.
