Every time I try to search something on Google, it takes me straight to Bing or Search Engage and I can't search anything.

Issue description

UserAgent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; CrOS x86_64 8743.87.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/54.0.2840.101 Safari/537.36
Platform: 8743.87.0 (Official Build) stable-channel terra

Example URL:
google.com

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. I go to Google
2. Type something in I need to search
3. Hit enter and it takes me straight to Bing or Search Engage

What is the expected behavior?
It won't let me use Google to search anything.

What went wrong?
I have no idea. It just started doing it one day.

Take a look at https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95426?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en to modify that setting.

This sounds like a malicious extension or similar.

Check your extension list for things you don't expect to be there, and remove them.  Also check the machine for malware.  In particular, "search engage" sounds like a clear sign of malware (Google searches for that phrase turn up a lot of links about removing malware/bad extensions).

I would not expect the link in comment 1 to help, since this is affecting the use of web content rather than the use of the omnibox.

In the future, the Chrome product forums may be able to help with this more quickly than filing a bug, as it's not clear here that the cause of this is an actual Chrome bug.

Optimistically closing this for now as a malware issue, but please post again if this turns out not to be the case.
