Thanks for the report. This might be  bug 667130 , which has been fixed in Canary, but is still awaiting merge to 56. This would likely be the case if you have lots of long hostnames. Also, you can check whether chrome://md-settings/passwords has the same issue. Please let me know what you see.

Alternatively, because you report this for GNU/Linux, it could be an issue with the backend. If you use some Gnome-like environment, you are likely using Gnome Keyring. This will ultimately change (bug 571003), but we can still check if there is anything to be done about it (cfroussios@ has done some fixes pre-55, I will loop him in if the first paragraph will prove to be off).

Given it works in md-settings, this is unlikely to be a storage problem, so I'm wondering if it is a duplicate of  bug 667130  (fixed in 56.0.2924.31) indeed.

Once your Chrome has version at least 56.0.2924.31, could you please let me know if your issue still persists?
