HDMI audio does not work on LG IPS 27UD88 LED monitor

ChromeOS: 9000.26.0, 56.0.2924.26

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Sign in 
(2) Connect to LG IPS LED monitor via default hdmi or via USB-C adapter or USB-C external port  
    make sure hdmi audio is selected under audio settings  
(3) Play any audio via this usb-c external monitor 

What is the expected result?
Audio should play via this usb-c external monitor 

What happens instead?
No audio can be heard 

Always 
Tested non-usb-c & usb-c devices

Does it have speakers?
It could be that it needs external speakers to attach to the monitor. Do you see any audio jack port?

Found the audio jack port of the monitor.

The monitor does not come with speaker.
