Selecting text around italic boundaries causes clipping

Project Member Reported by pdr@chromium.org, Dec 12 2016

Issue description

Chrome Version: 56.0.2924.14
OS: Ubuntu

What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) Open http://output.jsbin.com/rizegi
(2) Select all text
(3) Notice the last 'e' gets cut off (see screenshot).

I think this is due to selection painting of the last double-quote overlapping the 'e'.

In 55.0.2883.75 beta the text flashes as the selection is extended over it. Maybe fixing that broke what you're seeing?

I bisected this down to: https://src.chromium.org/viewvc/blink?revision=162592&view=revision, which is not really useful, but does show that this bug has existed for a while.

Lets leave as a P3. Seems like an easy fix for a rainy day.

I think this is actually due to the paint rect for the italic "e" not being correct. Probably because the font metrics are off. I think this is WontFix unless we can find a case where it really affects usability.
