Changing the channel in the Chrome OS About page should be more accessible |
||||||||||||||||||||||
Issue descriptionWe need to revamp the about://chrome page when updating a device from channel to channel. As you update, from stable to beta for example, and you press More Info then Change Channel button, select beta and press OK, then you don’t get sufficient spoken feedback to understand what is happening and that the device is updating. The percentage shouldn’t be read each time it changes, but we need to somehow tell the user every so often what percentage the progress is at. Also, once the update is done, the restart button needs to be read as an alert somehow, since it’s not intuitive to the user that this one button has now changed and that they need to restart to actually make the channel change happen.

@dpapad, could you or someone on your team help make some minor changes to make the channel-changing more accessible? Laura's comments above are good, making the percentage a live region and firing an alert when the download is done would make a huge difference.

@dmazzoni,lpalmaro: This bug seems a bit old. Does it still happen in the latest chrome://settings/help UI? If so, my team's focus lies mostly within the Browser Settings, although we've helped with CrOS settings in various occasions. @stenenjb, jhawkins: Assuming this is till relevant, could someone on the CrOS team address this?
