+palmer@, who once volunteered to poke translation bugs. chiaravanone@ seems to be out since at least 30 days. I asked a friend who speaks Russian, who says "in writing, the ё vowel can, and usually is, written as е and you just have to know which one it is. They both make sense so I'd go with whichever is standardized on the Russian web when used in this context." So it seems that ё is more canonical, but е is a valid alternative spelling: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D0%BD%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B0%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%B6%D0%BD%D1%8B%D0%B9 Our help center uses е [1], and е has more hits on Google. We should consult our translators, but this seems far from a release blocker. Actually, looks like chiaravanone@ is just not active on crbug. Will ping separately.

Hi all, I'm from RU localization team. The letter ё is not appropriate here. The current translation is perfectly fine, no changes needed. Thanks! Liudmila

> The letter ё is not appropriate here. I think you are wrong. "ё" letter is better than "е" in this word.

I agree with comment 11. Russian people say this word with letter ё, not with letter е. So why you think that in Chromium this word should be written with е instead of ё?

In russian language not present word "Надежный", only "Надёжный" is appropriatevariant of this word. Even URL https://ru.wiktionary.org/wiki/надежный redirect us to URL with right word https://ru.wiktionary.org/wiki/надёжный Letter ё is very important in russian language and culture, in all citizen documents, names, surnames etc. Please use right russian words. It is not so diffucult for translatars and very comfort for users.

#13, et al.: I feel you. :) Liudmilla, it seems like multiple Russian sources use ё, so it sounds like that's the way to go, right?

Hey guys, Russian Language Manager here. I like and fully support Ё in all its forms, but according to the current language standard we follow, this letter is necessary to use in proper names and in cases where it is necessary to distinguish one word from another (e.g.: все / всё). In all other cases it's arbitrary and for the sake of consistency we instruct our translators and reviewers to avoid using it whenever it's not necessary - until official rules of Russian language change (I personally would actually welcome that) and it becomes a norm to use it whenever we hear the respective sound. Thanks!

У меня он лежит по адресу "/opt/google/chrome/locales/ru.pak". Например, можно заменить слова на правильные с помощью команды sed: "sudo sed -i 's/Надежный/Надёжный/g; s/надежный/надёжный/g; s/Ненадежный/Ненадёжный/g; s/ненадежный/ненадёжный/g;' /opt/google/chrome/locales/ru.pak". |
