Issue descriptionChrome Version : 54.0.2840.85 URL : https://gonimo.com Behavior in Safari 4.x/5.x: Nan Behavior in Firefox 3.x/4.x: Sound transmission for new webrtc connections even if screen is off. What steps will reproduce the problem? (1) Visit https://dev.gonimo.com (2) Add a second device to your family (3) Press "Start baby station" on a mobile device and deactivate the screen (4) Press connect to baby on the other device - no sound, no video. What is the expected result? Have a working baby monitor setup, where you can hear and see your baby. What happens instead? Video stays blank and more importantly no sound. I already knew that on mobile devices, when the screen gets switched off, so does the video, this is not ideal for a baby monitor, but we can just lock the screen to make it work. The problem is, with audio only, the power consumption can be really low, making a battery powered device last for several hours! This would be totally ruined by having the screen on all the time. I totally understand that this behaviour is probably because of privacy reasons, also Firefox keeps the video disabled if display is off (but allows sound). But this behaviour severely harms gonimo's claim to a good baby monitor. My suggestion is, instead of simply disabling sound for new connections if the monitor is blank, ask the user whether this is the desired behaviour: "Allow gonimo.com to access your device's microphone even when the screen is turned off?" -> This can also simply be an additional "checkbox", defaulting to off, when asking the user for permissions for microphone/camera. Many many thanks! This is really critical for us! I hope this issue can be resolved and I would be definitely be willing to help! Best regards, Robert

I am so happy right now! :-) A colleague of mine found a bug report about audio not working, when video does not. So I just tried it out, sound works if video is disabled! Please don't change that! :-) Many thanks, and sorry for bothering you!

It seems, I am not allowed to close this bug - at least I can't find a way to do it.

Marking this as "Wont Fix" as pointed by #4. Please re-open if you think it is necessary. |
