The trace was 50 MB, so I couldn't attach it.  (I wasn't sure which things to trace, so I just traced everything, and ended up with a file that's 500 MB uncompressed.)  You can get it here:  http://www.filedropper.com/tracetracejson_1

However, when I tried uncompressing it, 7-zip failed because "There are some data after the end of the payload data : trace_json.json".  So I hope you can reproduce this independently.  Alternatively, if you tell me which things are useful to trace, I can probably get you a reasonable trace file.

When you say "open new windows and new tabs", are the new tabs just showing the new tab page? Or are you navigating them to some other URL?

Do you have any extensions installed?

As a first cut, it might be easier to start with a profiler run.

  1. visit chrome://profiler
  2. Click on "[snapshots]".
  3. Add a snapshot.
  4. Wait for the browser to hang. When it becomes responsive again, click on "Add snapshot" again.

You can save the log using the "Save" button.
