content_unittest binary is too large to strip

Project Member Reported by mbjorge@google.com, Dec 2 2016

Issue description

As part of the Chromecast build process, we need to strip all the unittest binaries so they can be uploaded to devices for testing.

The content_unittests has gotten so large now that the strip tool cannot strip it, instead it just gets confused and says 'file format not recognized'

x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/armv7a-cros-linux-gnueabi/binutils-bin/2.25.51/strip.elf:content_unittests: File format not recognized

It's bigger than a 32-bit architecture can handle :(

$ ls -la content_unittests
-rwxr-x--- 1 slan eng 4297031220 Dec  2 09:47 content_unittests

A few possible solutions:

1. Break up content_unittests into smaller tests
2. Remove some of the tests from the chromecast build (guarding with is_chromecast)
3. Don't build content_unittests for 32bit builds

4. Get a stripping tool that can handle large files

Seems to be the same root issue as: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=648948

I think we are going to go with just setting symbol_level=1.
