Synced favicons not showing on iOS

Issue description
Chrome Version : 54.0.2840.91

Other browsers tested:
Add OK or FAIL, along with the version, after other browsers where you
have tested this issue:
Safari:
Firefox:
IE:
What steps will reproduce the problem?
(1) download chrome on iOS
(2) login to google account
(3) bookmarks load without favicons.
What is the expected result?
Favicons don't appear. Only color box with letter.
What happens instead?
Favicons should appear as they do on my android and MacBook.
Please provide any additional information below. Attach a screenshot if
possible.

For what it’s worth, the issue still persists on a clean install of the latest version of chrome on the latest version of iOS as of this date. Sync seems working, according to sync-internals. Favicon Images 219 219 Running Group UI Favicon Tracking 222 222 Running Group U Visiting a website loads the fav icon for said website.

I think that the synced favicons are the really small 16*16 ones. We don't use them as they'd be really ugly in the UI. Large favicons are only retrieved once the webpage is visited, as that’s when the favicon is downloaded. noyau@, do you confirm this is still the state as of now?

As told in comment #6, chrome iOS won't retrieve favicons if the webpage isn't visited. We are working on crbug.com/697329 which will fix this issue (allow downloading of large favicons before visit). |
