Issue descriptionI don't have an intuition for how expensive it'll be, but it probably shouldn't be completely hidden from timeline and tracing. We should certainly add a trace for this at a minimum. We should probably add something to the timeline too. This does not look like something we want to make explicit in Timline -- unless it happens to take considerable time, which, looking at current implementation, I assume it doesn't.
