Educational Child Restrictions for Chrome

Reported by jamesbea...@gmail.com, Nov 22 2016

Issue description

1] Component Name: Child restrictive learning

2] Google Chrome Browser - Parental Controls

3] I am a C# WPF developer and have recently been using a tool in a custom internet browser which I feel could be a great selling point for parents to use Google Chrome over other browsers. My nieces and nephews enjoy using the internet to play games & watch videos, but getting them to learn as they are going is very difficult. I would like to see a feature within the parental control that does the following:
- Allows the parent to set the age of the child user they are restricting controls for.
- After each piece of content is accessed the child would then need to answer simple questions related to the key stage of learning they would be at in school. For example, after 10 minutes of browsing the web through my custom browser, a simple game comes up for my 5 year old nephew to put the months of the year in order. Only upon completion of the task can he continue to use the browser.

With the amount of time children spend on the internet this would be a great way for parents to see where there are gaps in a child's learning. The tasks/games would be more complex as the education level of a child increases. I also feel this could be a good selling point for the android operating system. They wouldn't need to be very long or intense games, just reinforcement of knowledge which gradually increases what a child should know.

4] Admin/ Owner: Google, you can have this :)

5] I feel you would need a development team that did the following:
- Identified for each age from 5-18 what the key areas of learning are in each country. This information is easily obtained in the UK from the Key Stage 1 - Key Stage 4 syllabus.
- Develop simple games that can be hosted in browsers and on operating systems that popup on at given times. These games would reinforce knowledge of the syllabus.
- Provide analytics to parents on areas where a child succeeded or struggled. This could also include comparisons with other children of a similar age group.

Hi James,

Thank you for the suggestion. We have parental controls built into to Chrome, under a feature called "Supervised User." (1) Regarding the quizzes, after some fixed period of browsing on a site, I'd encourage you to take a look at Chrome Extensions, which afford capability to change how Chrome works (2). It definitely sounds like that might be a useful tool/ learning approach for other parents, but is perhaps out of scope for inclusion in the core product.
