Chrome logos in chromium source

Project Member Reported by k...@google.com, Nov 22 2016

Issue description

In https://codereview.chromium.org/1868273002 these appear to be added. These should be checked into the internal repo when using full color Chrome logos. Please fix.

kerz@, This has been brought up before. The verdict was that it is ok to use Chrome logo in the sync confirmation modal to refer to "Chrome Sync".
Where was this decision made? Is there an email thread I can look at?

Do you know if we also explicitly allowed the use of the "Google G" logo in other screens when referring to Google services?

You can look at this CL where it's discussed: https://codereview.chromium.org/1840513002/

There are a couple email threads where this was also discussed (non-public, I can forward them to you if you wish). The tl;dr is that even in open source Chromium, signing in and enabling sync sends your data to *Google's* servers. The decision was that the branding made sense, since you're still interacting with "Chrome Sync" servers, even if you're using Chromium. Same logic applies for the "Google G."

Please do forward. We should not have Google logos in Chromium.
I'm working on removing these same images from the iOS build, tracked in Issue 665967 . For now I'll continue to remove official branding from Chromium iOS builds, but long-term, I'll aim to be consistent between iOS and desktop. I can always unwind my changes later if needed.

What will we show in Chromium iOS on the sync confirmation screen, then? I think the same logic applies to iOS. Users are interacting with a closed-source, Google-powered service. We should keep our branding consistent across all platforms.

If we decide to remove the logos entirely from all platforms, then at that point we can remove them from iOS too.
