Unable to reproduce the issue on Ubuntu 14.04 using chrome reported version #53.0.2785.143, chrome stable #54.0.2840.100 and latest canary #57.0.2926.0.

Following are the steps followed to reproduce the issue.
------------
1. Navigated to NYTimes.com
2. Observed that NYTimes.com loaded without any issues.

crg.coughlin@ - Could you please check this issue in latest stable #54.0.2840.100 by creating a new profile without any apps and extensions and please let us know if the issue still persist or not.

Thanks...!!

I am sorry to have not responded sooner, but I see that you were using
14.04 for testing and I am using 16.04. Regardless the issue has subsided.
I know I had received at least on Chromium update before it was resolved,
but that's not to say the update was the resolution. Either way; I am no
longer experiencing the issue.

Thanks
