I have the same problem on amazon.com and nytimes.com. I am running Version 53.0.2785.143 Built on Ubuntu , running on Ubuntu 14.04 (64-bit). All these websites work on Firefox on the same machine, and they work on Chromium on a Windows machine.

Just picked an Ubuntu 16.04 update which mentioned an errant set of trusted certificates. Fixed it for me! Thanks Ubuntu Chromium
